A meeting dedicated to Kateryna Yushchenko, an outstanding Ukrainian who is the author of the world’s first high-level programming language

Did you know that the world’s first high-level programming language was created by a Ukrainian woman?

Meet Kateryna Yushchenko, the daughter of an “enemy of the people,” who managed to become a pioneer in programming and write her name in the history of world science!

On October 28, a lecture-presentation dedicated to the outstanding Ukrainian woman was held at the University’s Scientific Library. The speaker was Larisa Deynega, senior lecturer at the Department of Software. She spoke about Kateryna Yushchenko’s life and scientific path, emphasizing how her Address Speech made programming closer to human thinking.

The guests of the event learned about Kateryna’s difficult but inspired path to success, her numerous discoveries, students, and the world’s first programming textbooks created under her leadership.

Andriy Ivanchenko, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, Socio-Economic Development, and Youth Policy, emphasized that Ukrainian intelligence has always been and remains the driving force of progress, and the story of Kateryna Yushchenko is a vivid example of this. He called on young people to study the biographies and achievements of outstanding Ukrainian scientists in more depth.

The Scientific Library prepared a book exhibition “Fundamentals of Programming and Its Areas of Application.” The head of the library sector, Nataliya Fedko, introduced those present to modern sources whose authors continue the work of the outstanding scientist.
