Presentation of the book “7 Days in the White World” by Oleg Shemchuk

On September 5, the Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University hosted a presentation of the book “7 Days in the White World” by Oleg Shemchuk, a graduate of the Department of Journalism, who died while defending Ukraine at the front.

Oleg Shemchuk is a Zaporizhia journalist, and later a serviceman of the 53rd separate mechanized brigade. He died in September 2022 while performing a combat mission in the Bakhmut direction.

The presentation of the book was attended by Oleg’s relatives and people who have warm memories of him: mother Olena Shemchuk, the Hero’s longtime friends, teachers and students of the Department of Journalism, representatives of the Zaporizhzhia Center for Journalistic Solidarity, teachers of the Faculty of Humanities, and employees of the university’s scientific library.

The presentation of the book was opened by Vice-Rector Andriy Ivanchenko. He emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of the heroes of Ukraine and the price that our defenders pay for the existence of the state. Also speaking were the dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Tetyana Khitrova, and the associate professor of the Department of Journalism, Svitlana Panchenko, who were Oleg’s teachers and knew him well from their student days.

The touching speech of the hero’s mother, Olena Shemchuk, moved everyone present. Oleg was also remembered with warm words by his close friend, who came to the presentation with the hero’s mother.

Thanks to Ms. Olena, the book “7 Days in the White World” was published after the death of Oleg Shemchuk. “7 Days in the White World” is a dramatic book about a man with a gray past who appears on the abandoned White World street and offers its residents solutions to their problems.

You can read the book in the scientific library of Zaporizhia Polytechnic University, and a copy will also be kept at the Department of Journalism. They were purchased for the university by the director of the Rehabilitation Space for Veterans of the Ukrainian Army “Blokpost” Vladyslav Moroko.
