Language unites generations: the first university stage of the XXVI International Ukrainian Language Competition named after Petro Jacyk has started

On October 17, the 1st university stage of the XXVI Petro Yatsyk International Ukrainian Language Competition traditionally started at the Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University. The organizer and coordinator of the event was the Department of Ukrainian Studies and General Language Training of the Faculty of Humanities. The moderator of the competition is Associate Professor Tetyana Katysh.

The international competition is held on the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language. It was founded by Petro Yatsyk, a Canadian entrepreneur of Ukrainian origin, a well-known philanthropist who supported numerous Ukrainian studies scientific initiatives. Every year, schoolchildren, students and cadets from over twenty countries of the world become participants in the competition.

This year, the opening of the university stage took place in a remote format. The competition was attended by students from various faculties of the university. The Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Associate Professor Iryna Voronyuk, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech, emphasizing that today, in conditions of war, the Ukrainian language is a weapon and a border that separates us from the enemy and his influence.

Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Studies and General Language Training Tetyana Katysh acquainted the participants with the organizational aspects of the competition. Students received creative tasks aimed at testing their knowledge of lexicology, morphology, syntax, stylistics, and spelling norms.

Based on the results of evaluating the works, the jury consisting of associate professors Tetyana Bilenko, Iryna Voronyuk, Tetyana Katysh, and senior lecturer Lina Myronyuk will determine the winners among our students. The best participants will soon represent the university at the regional stage of the competition.
