Interfaculty Roundtable: “A Competition That Unites a Nation”

On October 16, an interfaculty roundtable was held at the Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Petro Jacyk Language Marathon and the 125th anniversary of the university.

The roundtable brought together students and teachers from different faculties with a common idea of ​​preserving, developing, and popularizing the Ukrainian language. Among the university employees who participated were Snezhana Vychuzhanina, Head of the Department of Scientific Work of Students of the Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University, Associate Professors of the Department of Ukrainian Studies and General Language Training Tetyana Bilenko, Kateryna Bondarchuk, as well as Associate Professor Iryna Voronyuk, who shared personal memories of participating in the competition.

The students made the following reports:

• Olexandra Lomteva (BAD–535): “A Competition That Unites the Nation” and “The Role of Language Competitions in the Formation of National Identity”
• Viktoria Galushko (GF–115): “Mykhailo Slaboshpytskyi — the Voice and Heart of the Petro Yatsyk Competition”
• Kseniya Perekhrest (BTU–1615): “Current Aspects of Language Policy in Ukraine”
• Dmytro Ivanenko (M–815): “Language Resilience in Times of War”
• Kateryna Khvostyk (BTU–1015): “The Role of Language in the Modern Globalized World”

Svitlana Balabanova (CH–115) recited Serhiy Zhadan’s poem “As Long as You Hate, As Long as You Love,” and Maria Sur (CH–115) recited Mykola Lototsky’s poem “Language.” Musical compositions were also performed – songs by Taras Petrynenko – symbols of faith, unity and indomitability.

And during the discussion, Tetyana Katysh and senior lecturer Lina Myronyuk discussed the meaning of the language competition and how the Ukrainian word unites the nation even in the most difficult times.
