Cultural and educational event – round table “Dialogue between generations: reading “Kobzar” together”

This year, Ukrainians celebrate the 212th anniversary of the birth of the Great Kobzar — the brilliant poet, thinker, and talented artist Taras Shevchenko. His word remains a symbol of spiritual strength, national dignity and love for the native land today.

In order to honor the memory of the artist, popularize his creative heritage and foster respect for the Ukrainian word, on March 12, the Department of Ukrainian Studies and General Language Training organized an interfaculty cultural and educational event – a round table “Dialogue of Generations: Reading “Kobzar” Together” at the Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University.

The event brought together students from different faculties – information security and electronic communications, computer science and technology, business technology and economics, law, transport, social sciences, who, together with the department’s teachers Tetyana Bilenko, Kateryna Bondarchuk, Iryna Voronyuk, Lina Myronyuk, and Tetyana Katysh delved into the depths of Shevchenko’s words, understanding their meaning for modern Ukrainian society.

The program of the event was rich, meaningful, and full of interesting speeches and creative presentations. The head of the Department of Student Research, Snezhana Vychuzhanina, welcomed the participants, emphasizing the importance of preserving and understanding the spiritual heritage of Taras Shevchenko for modern youth.

The participants presented interesting reports and presentations dedicated to the Kobzar’s work, in particular: “Reflection of the Mentality of Ukrainians in the Works of Taras Shevchenko” – Kseniya Perekhrest (FBTE–0815), “Common Motifs in the Works of Taras Shevchenko and European Poets” – Polina Pauk (FBTE–1615), “Shevchenko – an Artist” – Alina Pozdnyakova (TF–315), “The Relevance of Taras Shevchenko’s Work Today” – Anna Avramenko (TF–315).

Of particular interest were additional student performances: “Unknown Taras Shevchenko” — Dmytro Podnebesny (ЮФ–315), “Translations and Re-singings of Taras Shevchenko’s Works” — Dmytro Kupin (БК–235), “Legal Expertise of a Poetic Text: Unknown Manuscript of Taras Shevchenko’s Poem “I Am the Same”” — Oleksandra Maleva (ЮФ–115), “Shevchenko and Zaporizhzhia” — Daniil Thiessen (ЮФ–215).

Tetyana Katysh recited the poem “The Cherry Orchard Around the House” in Ukrainian and English. The participants were very interested in the interactive quiz on the Kobzar’s work, which was conducted by law students Kostianin Horpynych and Yehor Nazarenko (Law-115).

Students of the transport and law faculties of Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University prepared a sincere and inspired recitation of Kobzar’s favorite poems, creating a kind of poetic flash mob – a live reading of Shevchenko’s works (Artemiy Drozd, Timur Ivashchenko, Vasyl Blagodist, Daniil Manzhula, Eric Semenyakin, Anna Avramenko, Daniil Thissen, Artem Gavrylenko, Kateryna Ganzha). A special atmosphere was created by the presentation of the bookplate “Kobzar in Miniature. The World of Shevchenko”, dedicated to various editions of Taras Shevchenko’s works — from rare to modern ones, which are stored in the funds of the University’s Scientific Library. An overview of these unique publications was presented by the head of the library’s fiction sector, Nataliya Fedko, who spoke about the history and value of individual editions of Kobzar’s legacy.

The word of Taras Shevchenko remains alive, relevant and capable of uniting generations of Ukrainians today!
