Engineering Festival at Zaporizhia Academic Lyceum No. 15
On June 6, the Children’s and Youth Scientific University of the National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” took part in the Engineering Festival – 2026, which was held at the Zaporizhzhia Academic Lyceum No. 15 and brought together pupils, teachers, students and everyone who is passionate about science, engineering and modern technologies.
Our university presented two interactive locations – “RoboTech” and “Physics Magic”.
The special attention of the festival participants was attracted by the location “RoboTech”, which was prepared by associate professors of the Department of Electric Drive and Automation of Industrial Installations Olena Nazarova and Volodymyr Osadchy. Exciting interactive activities with controlling Lego robots, games and competitions with Micro:bit-based robocars were organized for schoolchildren. The participants also got acquainted with the STEM project “EcoSmartBin”, aimed at studying the current issues of waste sorting and recycling. Schoolchildren learned about the principles of “smart” waste management systems and investigated the issue of manufacturing models of automated garbage cans. For future applicants, teachers presented a model of an automated car wash based on a Siemens industrial controller, demonstrating the practical application of modern automation and mechatronics technologies in real production processes.
At the “Physics Magic” location, senior laboratory assistant of the Industry 4.0 center Denys Kalinichenko opened the fascinating world of physics to students through interactive demonstrations and experiments. Festival participants watched experiments in optics that seemed like real magic, but actually demonstrated amazing physical laws. Schoolchildren also tried their hand at logic games, learned how to transmit messages over a distance using Morse code, and got to know the processes of converting different types of energy in practice. The location helped students see that physics is not just formulas and problems, but an exciting science that explains the phenomena of the surrounding world and underlies many modern technologies.
During the day, 14 interactive locations were open, where participants learned about robotics, physics, computer technology and STEM areas, participated in robot competitions, worked with digital microscopes, created airplane models, 3D pen crafts and participated in scientific experiments.
