On May 1, a ceremonial presentation of certificates to the students-laureates of the prestigious DAAD-Stipendium Ukraine Digital program, funded by the Harald Christ Foundation for Democracy and Diversity, took place at Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University.

The participants were welcomed by the rector of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University Viktor Greshta, the coordinator of the DAAD D25016 «Ukraine Digital 2025» project, professor of the Berlin School of Economics and Law Yurii Plotkin, and the vice-rector of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University Andriy Ivanchenko. They wished the scholars further development and new achievements in their studies.

50 students from different faculties of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic University received scholarships of 700 Euros each. They sincerely thanked the partners for the support, which opens up new horizons in their studies and professional development. In total, this semester the Harald Christ Foundation for Democracy and Diversity provided 35,000 Euros for scholarships to students of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic University.

Results of a survey on the psycho-emotional state of participants in the educational process, conducted within the framework of the project «University Community »How are you?«», which is implemented within the framework of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program – an initiative of First Lady Olena Zelenska.

The survey was supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, which currently has its own priority project within the framework of «How are you?» and promotes the integration of mental health components in education at all levels.

I especially liked the part related to recognizing boundaries and the extent to which artificial intelligence resources are involved in the activities of students and teachers.

1. There were many insights while exploring the attempts of foreign colleagues to establish assessment scales for student work in contexts where AI resources are or are not used.

2. One particularly debatable but thought-provoking point was the involvement of artificial intelligence in the actual process of evaluating student achievements. 3. Daniel’s experience in assessing international students was valuable to me. Before the war, we also had students from various countries studying at our uni, so understanding the expectations of international students in the university learning process is extremely important to me.

On April 25, Vice-Rector of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University Andriy Ivanchenko took part in the round table «Student Support Centers: Joint Solutions for Equal Opportunities», which was held at the Western Ukrainian National University in the city of Ternopil.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine within the framework of the implementation of the National Strategy for Creating a Barrier-Free Space in Ukraine by 2030 and the flagship project «Educational Barrier-Freeness: Opening New Horizons».

The participants were welcomed by Advisor to the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Accessibility Tetyana Lomakina, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Andriy Vitrenko, Representative of the Coordination Center for Mental Health of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Anastasiia Golotenko, Deputy Head of the Ternopil Regional Military Administration Pavlo Zhurba, Mayor of Ternopil Serhiy Nadal, and Rector of the Western Ukrainian National University Oksana Desyatnik.

During the panel discussion, the experience of creating Student Support Centers was discussed and the first results of pilot projects were presented. Representatives of the Western Ukrainian National University, Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University, Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, Ukrainian Catholic University, and Mariupol State University shared their experiences and visions for development.

In offline mode, participants visited the resilience center, the immersive multifunctional hub, and the student support center of the Western Ukrainian National University, and got acquainted with the methods of organizing their work with applicants with special educational needs.

It was also nice to see the results of the implementation of the joint project «WORK4CE», the grantholder of which is Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic University.

Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic University continues to actively implement the principles of barrier-free education in the educational space. Together we are building a Ukraine of opportunities for everyone!

On April 24, an important meeting was held at the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University with representatives of the Kharkiv IT cluster – Ulyana Shumey and Kateryna Bobrysheva. Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic was represented at the meeting by Vice-Rector Ruslan Kulikovsky, Head of the Department of Software Serhiy Subbotin, Dean of the Faculty of Information Security and Electronic Communications Nataliia Furmanova, Director of the National Center «Zaporizhzhia Regional Center of Polytechnic Education» Tetyana Solovyova, as well as directors of our colleges: Olha Barshay, Vadym Keda, Ruslan Koshelyuk, Nataliia Ovchinnikova, Oleksandr Korotkyi.

The participants discussed current initiatives, future steps of cooperation, and new opportunities for university and college students: exchange of experience, participation in industry events, and development of educational IT programs.

On April 23, a remote meeting was held on cooperation issues between NES – the Institute for Sustainable Energy Systems of the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences and the Department of Software Tools of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University.

The meeting was attended by Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Rainer Gasper from NES, and by Head of the Department of Software Serhiy Subbotin from Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University, Professor of the Department of Software Andriy Oliynyk from Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University, and Chairman of the Scientific Society of Students, Postgraduate Students, Doctoral Students, Young Scientists and Specialists, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University, Serhiy Leoshchenko.

During the meeting, the parties demonstrated introductory presentations about their activities and talked about existing achievements and interests. Our German partners expressed interest in the competencies of specialists from the Department of Software Tools in computational intelligence technologies for solving applied problems.

The participants agreed on directions for further cooperation and joint activities for the near future. Working together – developing together!

The team of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University joined the first module of the Professional Development Program for Academic Managers, which is implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine together with the British Council within the framework of the project «Improving Higher Education in Ukraine for Results», which is implemented with the support of the World Bank.

The first module was devoted to the topic «The role of the university in the context of social transformations». Key areas were covered:

• modern European and national trends in the development of higher education
• values ​​of social responsibility
• the concept of a pro-social university
• partnership with employers and development of dual education
• public service of the university
• models of interaction with the community
• best international practices (in particular, the case of Great Britain)

Participation in the Program allowed the university team to get acquainted with the best practices, to find new tools for effective interaction with the region and society, especially in the complex conditions of today.

On April 16, the rector of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University, Viktor Greshta, signed a memorandum of cooperation with Tomakiv Lyceum No. 1 of the Tomakiv Village Council of the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Pro-Rector of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University Ruslan Kulikovsky took part in the Annual Conference of the European University Association (EUA), which began on April 10 at the University of Latvia (Riga). The theme of this year’s conference — «Connecting the dots on sustainable development and resilience» — is extremely relevant for Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic in view of our development strategy.

The first day of the conference began with the EUA General Assembly, open to representatives of member universities and affiliated organizations. The meeting discussed key issues for the development of the association and also saw the election of four new members of the EUA Council for the period 2025–2029.

The participants were welcomed by EUA President Josep Mariia Garrel, Rector of the University of Latvia Gundars Berzins, and representative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia Lana Franceska.

The first plenary session, «The Role of Universities in Ensuring Sustainable Development,» brought together leading educators to discuss the impact of universities on achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Keynote speakers, including Professor Enrico Giovannini from the Italian University of Tor Vergata, highlighted the growing role of universities in shaping sustainable development strategies. As an example, the professor presented the Italian network of universities working towards sustainable development. This network includes over 80 universities actively involved in thematic groups on climate change, energy, mobility and social justice. The results of the implementation of sustainable development principles in the strategic plans of universities were also presented.

Professor Daniella Tilbury from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe gave a presentation on the need to change the approaches of university leadership to the Sustainable Development Goals: they should be integrated not as a separate topic or project, but as a fundamental principle of direct leadership and strategic management of universities.

University representatives actively shared the practices and results of their own sustainable development strategies during thematic sections.

For example, representatives of the Tallinn University of Technology presented a strategy for achieving climate neutrality by 2035, which involves integrating sustainable practices into teaching, research and campus management. Colleagues from the National Polytechnic University of Armenia (NPUA) shared their experience in implementing sustainability principles as a continuous process, emphasizing the need to integrate these principles into curricula and research activities.

The conference paid special attention to crisis management. A roundtable of university leaders presented case studies on overcoming recent crises: the COVID-19 pandemic and cyberattacks. Participants discussed effective tools for decision-making and ensuring the resilience of university communities.

The first day of the conference concluded with a plenary session on ensuring attractive and sustainable academic careers. Participants discussed recommendations for creating an environment for talent development in higher education that combines stability, attractiveness and sustainability, which are important for the long-term success of universities.

This was discussed at the workshop «Secure Employment», which took place on April 10 at the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University!

The participants of the event — students who are already thinking about their future — received practical advice for a conscious start to their careers.

Together with expert Yurii Bily, president of the YMCA of Zaporizhzhia region, they discussed the following topics:

• job search strategies and tactics
• methods for writing resumes and cover letters, as well as preparing for interviews
• ways to protect yourself from fraudulent schemes and avoid becoming a victim of human trafficking
• analysis of real employment cases

Participants analyzed their own expectations from work and determined how to find a place where they want to grow.

The event is implemented within the framework of the city program «Youth of Zaporizhzhia for 2025–2027» by the CU «Zaporizhzhia City Youth Center» of the ZMR in cooperation with the NGO «YMCA» in the Zaporizhzhia region and the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University.

On April 8, a meeting with our partners and friends, the founders of the British non-profit organization «Casus Pax» Holly Tann and Adam McQuire, took place at Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic University. They held a vivid and meaningful conversation with schoolchildren, teachers, and graduate students of Zaporizhzhia.

The discussion was attended by students of Zaporizhzhia Academic Lyceum No. 31, Zaporizhzhia Academic Lyceum «Perspektiva», students of Zaporizhzhia Humanitarian Vocational College, our graduate students and employees.

Але ж головне — це люди! Команда познайомилась із місцевим студентським самоврядуванням, яке очолює Володимир Макарук, дізналися, як вони працюють, які заходи організовують.

Зі свого боку представники студентського самоврядування Запорізької політехніки під керівництвом його голови Софії Степаненко презентували наш університет, розповіли про нашу діяльність і вже будують плани на спільні проєкти.
