Participants of the summer school for gifted students visit Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic
On June 20, Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic, headed by rector Viktor Greshta, was pleased to welcome participants of the seventh regional summer school for gifted students (scientific and technical direction) of the PNZ «TSNTTUM »Grani« to its walls.
A tour of the university was organized for the students, which began with the Museum of the History of Technical Progress. The children also got acquainted with the Department of Power Supply of Industrial Enterprises and their STEM project – »Smart Home«, visited the Department of Aircraft Engine Technologies and were amazed by the size of real aircraft engines.
At the Department of Machine Parts and Lifting Mechanism Technologies, students tried to control the movement of laboratory cranes themselves, and at the Department of Composite Materials, Chemistry and Technologies, they were able to experience the variety of structures of the latest materials, made small products using a 3D pen and watched 3D printing on a professional printer.
The Department of Electrical and Electronic Devices showed students what the hardware parts of various modern gadgets and electrical devices consist of.
When visiting the Department of Physical Materials Science, students were able to get acquainted with materials, crystallization and melting points on example of gallium. Schoolchildren studied the structure of the metal, and also worked with a scanning microscope: they looked at insects at high magnification. At the Department of Design, guests were pleased to look at the works of graduates presented at the departmental exhibition, found out what the concept of »form-making” means, and were surprised by the uniqueness of paper creative works.
The excursion ended with a visit to the department «Electric Drive and Automation of Industrial Installations», where the students got acquainted with modern industrial automation and mechatronics, compared manual and automatic operation of a sorting station, got acquainted with a model of the water supply system of a multi-storey building, and then enthusiastically flew a drone at the «Drone Operators School» class.
