Training «Social Media Traps in Wartime. Constructing Media Reality»
On March 21, Nataliia Ostrovska, Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism at Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University, conducted a training «Social Media Traps in Wartime. Constructing Media Reality» for seniors of Zaporizhzhia Gymnasium No. 93 based on their «Space of Opportunities».
Among the topics discussed:
- searching for verified sources of information;
- methods for recognizing bots and trolls in social networks;
- fakes and manipulations of recent months.
The greatest attention was paid to deepfakes, since the development of artificial intelligence makes it difficult to detect them. Therefore, the participants studied in detail the technologies of creation, analyzed the threats to information security created by the uncontrolled spread of deepfakes, and even created memes about them.
The Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic team has been raising the level of media literacy among our students and schoolchildren of the city for many years. Our goal is to develop critical thinking in society and support information security in the country!
The training was conducted within the framework of the project »Beyond the Thresholds of Lies: Let’s Study and Counteract!« in cooperation with the NGO »Social Interaction”.
