Meeting within the framework of the Biomedical Engineering project at Bogomolets University
A significant step in solving the urgent problem of high-quality materials for medical implants was the recent productive working meeting of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic delegation with representatives of the Bogomolets National Medical University, military doctors from Kharkiv and specialists from the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory, which took place within the framework of the Biomedical Engineering project at Bogomolets University. The meeting was dedicated to the development of modern materials for the production of implants, with a special emphasis on the urgent needs of the military in wartime.
Prolonged hostilities have increased the challenges associated with providing military medicine with high-quality materials for implantation and reducing dependence on imports. To outline the situation regarding medical needs in implant materials, representatives of the Ukrainian Military Medical Academy presented an overview of the current state and statistics of combat injuries sustained by Ukrainian military personnel. This informative session provided the basis for presentations by the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic team, who reported on the latest achievements of our university team under the leadership of Rector Viktor Greshta in the development of biosoluble magnesium materials and non-compact titanium alloys with a low modulus of elasticity.
The found ways to control the dissolution rate and the technology for producing relatively cheap materials for replacing a part of human bone with properties very close to it caused a lively and interesting discussion among the experts present.
The exchange of ideas and views allowed us to clarify some aspects of current initiatives for the development of materials, ensuring their compliance with the real needs of the medical community. The consensus reached during the discussion confirmed the importance of this area not only for military medicine, but also for civilian medicine in cases where similar problems arise.
The meeting culminated in reaching agreements on cooperation, which paves the way for a deeper level of interaction between the participating institutions. To strengthen these partnerships, formal cooperation agreements will be signed at the beginning of the next academic year, which will consolidate the obligations of all stakeholders.
The Head of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the Bogomolets National Medical University, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Oleksandr Buryanov expressed his confidence in the progress achieved during the meeting and the correct trajectory of the development of medical materials. He emphasized the importance of this interdisciplinary collaboration in creating significant advances and solutions to meet critical needs in the field of medical materials science.
The results of the meeting hold great promise for the future of domestic implant materials, ensuring a more sustainable and reliable supply for both military and civilian traumatologists.
Further research and development will allow us to reach a new level in medical implant manufacturing technology, which will significantly improve the quality of life of patients.
