All-Ukrainian Engineering Competitions — BEST Engineering Competition
On March 11-15, 2013, the local stage of the fifth all-Ukrainian engineering competition BEST Engineering Competition was held at Zaporizhzhia National Technical University. 52 ZNTU students took part in the event – 12 teams of 4 participants each, who passed the registration process and strict selection. According to the results of the competition, the team «Portrait of Domyan and Grave» won in the Team Design category, and in the Case Study category – «WWW»
The winners of the local stage will continue the fight at the national stage of the competition, which this year will also be held at ZNTU. The winners of the local stages from Kyiv, Lviv and Vinnytsia will join these competitions.
Let us recall that engineering competitions are divided into the Team Design and Case Study categories.
Team Design is team design. Solving a specific technical task and modeling technical structures, using only a certain set of materials under time constraints with subsequent demonstration of the result.
This year, the tasks were closely related to electronics, that is, within 3 working days, participants made LED bridges, radio receivers and speakers from a given amount of materials. The winners were «Portrait of Domyan and Greiv» (Mykhailiutenko Denys, Golovchenko Anna, Matvienko Oleksandr, Yakovlev Mykolay).
Case Study – solving a technical or economic problem through discussion. As a result of their work, the team presents a method for solving the proposed problem, or a strategic model of action in a specific situation.
In this category, student participants were asked to find ways to solve such problems as improving and developing the transport system in the city of Zaporizhzhia, as well as improving conditions for people with disabilities. The best in this category were «WWW» (Honchar Yevgeniya, Dyadya Yevgeniy, Kotova Taisia, Karpov Yevgeniy)
Also this year, for the first time, a competition was held in the IT category, in which 20 ZNTU students (8 teams) participated. 2 teams became the winners and shared the first place. «AVTeam» (Andriy Bezsonov, Viktoriya Kosarenko) and «Unnamed» (Dmytro Moroka, Yevhen Zadorozhny).
The organizers of the competition are local groups of the international student organization BEST in Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Vinnytsia and Lviv.
