Psychological students of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic University received training on first aid in case of injury from the international humanitarian organization UK-Med
During the first week of November, applicants for specialty 053 «Psychology» (bachelor and master’s students) together with the staff of the Department of Psychology underwent training in First Aid and Trauma Care training from the international humanitarian organization UK-Med Ukraine.
UK-Med is a British non-governmental charity providing direct medical care, education and support to the people of Ukraine from 1 March 2022 (https://www.facebook.com/UKMedNGO). One of the trainings conducted by UK-Med Ukraine instructors is First Aid and Trauma Care training, where participants not only get to know the rules of providing first aid, but also practice specific skills. The participants learned how to inspect the scene and assess the danger before providing first aid, stop massive bleeding (extremity bleeding and nodular bleeding), apply a tourniquet, provide first aid for airway obstruction, head, chest and abdominal injuries, pelvic fractures, burns, hypothermia, perform an examination of the victim, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). The topic is difficult, but in the conditions of war it is relevant for every Ukrainian, in particular for future psychologists.
The training itself lasts 5 hours and is designed for a group of 15-24 participants. The UK-Med Ukraine team of instructors conducted three separate trainings for us — on November 1, 2, and 7, for which full groups gathered. In addition to our psychology students, students of other specialties also joined. In total, 63 people completed the first pre-medical training from the Department of Psychology. The participants highly appreciated the level of the training, the practicality of the acquired skills and the relevance of each exercise that was offered. Despite the numerous air alarms and the fact that we had to constantly go down to the shelter, everyone got a lot of pleasure from the event.
In the near future, each participant will receive an electronic certificate of completion of the course from UK-Med.
Negotiations are currently ongoing with the UK-Med Ukraine organization regarding further cooperation both with the department of psychology and the university. A cooperation agreement is being signed.
