Joint research with Cardiff University

Recently, a delegation from Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic visited the laboratories of Cardiff University in the UK. The visit resulted in agreements on cooperation in the field of education, as well as joint scientific research. Our scientists established contacts with a number of research groups and took the first steps in scientific work.

In particular, one of the areas of cooperation is biomedical materials engineering, which is headed by the rector of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic, Professor Viktor Greshta. This includes studies of the toxicity of alloyed powder alloys with protective coatings, the features of the structure of the pore space of sintered alloys, chemical composition and mechanical properties. In addition, agreements were signed to study biodegradable alloys based on magnesium.

Another area of ​​joint research is the study of technologies for intensive plastic deformation of high-strength aluminum and magnesium alloys for aviation and medical purposes under the leadership of Professor Dmytro Pavlenko. This area includes the study of the properties of samples subjected to deformation by various methods, and the study of the distribution of deformation intensity across the cross-section of samples using X-ray tomography.

The third scientific area of ​​joint research is the production of aircraft engine parts using additive technologies, which is headed by the vice-rector of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University, Professor Valeriy Naumyk. The research is aimed at establishing the features of the mechanical properties of products obtained using selective laser melting technology, in particular the rate of crack propagation in samples and conducting low-cycle fatigue tests.

Also, after preliminary negotiations with Professor Rossi Setti, our university has received an invitation to participate in a joint research project aimed at creating a safer world by developing a semi-autonomous robotic system for the disposal of explosive ordnance.

We are confident that the modern research base of our partners, the established direct links with leading researchers at Cardiff University and the experience of our scientists will bear fruit in the form of joint scientific discoveries and projects.
