Development of youth policy in Zaporizhzhia region

Development of youth policy in Zaporizhzhia region

On April 4, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Youth Council held another public hearing, the topic of discussion of which was the problems of youth and students. The hearing was opened and led by the chairman of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Youth Council and the chairman of the trade union committee of students, postgraduates and doctoral students of ZNTU Ivanchenko Andriy Volodymyrovych. Several introductory words from him provided information about the history of the creation and activities of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Youth Council, and also formed the rules for holding hearings, where each participant was given the opportunity to present their problem and recommendations for its solution within five minutes.

Reports and speeches were prepared by more than fifteen participants in the public hearings. The problems were diverse. Starting from the age-old issues of employment, housing affordability, quality of education, and ending with playgrounds and various mainstream trends.

During the one and a half hour hearings, a lot of problems were identified that concern society and youth in particular. Among them were the following: the quality of student education, the condition of student dormitories, scholarships, the problem of normal leisure activities, and the most important problem – employment after graduation or for the period of study. The hearings considered the concept of European education within the framework of Ukraine’s integration into the common European space, where ideas were expressed for individual lesson schedules for students who are working at the time of study.

Another interesting idea concerned reducing fares for public transport and minibuses to 1 hryvnia 50 kopecks per trip along the route for a citizen who is a full-time student at a higher educational institution. I would like to note that in some cities of Ukraine, in particular in the cultural capital of Lviv, this practice is present, and students do not spend almost half of their savings on travel to their place of study.

Among the participants in the public hearings were representatives of the Zaporizhzhia authorities: Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Council Pavlo Matvienko, Deputy Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Andriy Gamov, Director of the Department of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Oleksandr Verozubov, heads of departments, divisions, centers of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration and the Zaporizhzhia City Council, who in their speeches emphasized the priority and importance of working with youth.

The public hearings were completed outside the scheduled time, but still within no more than 20 minutes. The result of the public hearings was the approval of the recommendations made by the participants in the process.
