Meeting at the Ukrainian State Center for International Education on the Education of Foreign Students

On March 24, 2022, the Ukrainian State Center for International Education organized a meeting for rectors of higher education institutions of Ukraine, representatives of international departments. The rector of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic University – Viktor Greshta and the head of the I and MS center Dmytro Plynokos took part in the meeting.

The event brought together representatives of more than 100 educational institutions of Ukraine. The topical issues of organizing the education of foreign students, preserving the contingent in wartime, and the prospects for the restoration of full-fledged education for foreign citizens in a distance format were considered. According to the center, since the declaration of martial law, more than 60,000 foreign students have been forced to leave the territory of Ukraine, but most of them intend to return or complete their studies in Ukraine.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the UDCME pay special attention to ensuring the possibility of distance learning for foreign students and will provide all possible consulting and practical assistance in organizing training, internal mobility between Ukrainian universities, and organizing internships abroad for foreign students.

During the meeting, the issue of preparing a concept (action plan) for the return of foreign students in the post-war period was considered. They lively discussed the possibility of distance admission of foreign students in 2022, and attracting the maximum possible number of students this year.

The Rector of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University Viktor Greshta, as well as the vast majority of rectors in Ukraine, supported the initiative of the Director of the UDCME Olena Shapovalova on the distance admission of foreign students this year, and initiated amendments to the current regulatory acts in the field of education to implement this provision.
