Environmental campaign “Plant a tree – grow peace!”

On April 5, the staff and students of Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University took part in the environmental campaign “Plant a tree – grow peace!” on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace and in support of the initiative of the National Olympic Committee.

This year, the action took place in front of the sports complex of the Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University as a sign of support for the most sporting institution of higher education in the Zaporizhia region, whose sports infrastructure was damaged as a result of the aggressor’s bombing on November 11, 2024: https://zp.edu.ua/poshkodzhennya-gurtozhytku-no2-ta-sportkompleksu-universytetu-11-lystopada-2024-roku

The participants of the event were greeted by the rector of the Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University Viktor Greshta, deputy head of the Zaporizhia Regional State Administration Mykhailo Semikin, and head of the Zaporizhia Regional Branch of the NOC of Ukraine Natalia Vlasova. The event was also joined by the Head of the Department of Youth, Physical Culture and Sports of the Regional State Administration of Ukraine Oleksandr Zlobenets, Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Department of the Committee on Physical Education and Sports of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Yuriy Shepel, Head of the Department of Sports and Physical Culture of the Regional State Educational Service of Ukraine Eduard Bagirov, and Director of the Zaporizhzhia Regional School of Higher Sportsmanship Oleksiy Gatsulya.

The event was also attended by prominent athletes and coaches of Zaporizhzhia: Olympic champion Olga Strazheva, bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in handball Oksana Raikhel, thirteen-time Guinness World Records record holder in kettlebell lifting Lyubov Cherepakha, as well as Honored Masters of Sports of Ukraine in boxing and fencing, Masters of Sports of Ukraine of international class in sports aerobics and diving, Honored coaches of Ukraine in sports aerobics, boxing and triathlon and Masters of Sports of Ukraine in sports aerobics, athletics, taekwondo, triathlon, judo and rowing.

Thanks and certificates for many years of conscientious work, high achievements in the development of physical culture and sports, active participation in the organization and holding of sports competitions and on the occasion of International Sports Day, teachers and employees of the university were awarded.

A total of 14 plants were planted during the event: 5 mountain ash, 5 catalpa and 4 juniper. Thank you to JSC “Motor Sich” for the provided seedlings!
