Holocaust Remembrance Day
Today we honor the memory of the victims of the Holocaust. On January 27, 1945, the troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front liberated one of the largest concentration camps of the Nazi regime – Auschwitz-Birkenau. During World War II, 6 million members of the Jewish community became victims of the brutal Nazi policy, which included the extermination of various national and ethnic groups that the Nazis considered a threat or inferior. Approximately 1.5 million of these people came from the territory of modern Ukraine.
This day is a reminder of the most terrible tragedies of the past and a symbol of preventing similar torture in the future.
The Holocaust remains the apogee of human cruelty. Now is our shared responsibility to the past — shaping a world where every person lives in safety, respect and dignity.
