On April 26-27, employees of Zaporizhia Polytechnic University participated in the “Model UN” game for students of grades 8-11, which took place on the basis of Zaporizhzhia Gymnasium No. 107. The event was organized by the Department of Education and Science and the “Polit” Center for Scientific and Technical Creativity of Youth.
Teachers from leading institutions of higher education in the city of Zaporizhia, including experts from the Zaporizhia Polytechnic, acted as invited experts. Our university was represented by Iryna Maksymenko, associate professor of the Department of Accounting and Finance, and Oleksiy Tymchuk, associate professor of the Department of Criminal, Civil, and International Law.
Pro-rector Valery Naumyk and director of Children’s and Youth Scientific University “Zaporizka Polytechnic” Olena Nazarova were invited by the Polytechnic as honored guests of the event.
During the game, students modeled the work of the UN General Assembly and its committees on social, humanitarian and cultural issues, as well as on human rights. Schoolchildren tried themselves in the role of delegates of 14 countries of the world. During the simulation of the work of the UN, young people discussed important issues, among them: the fight against poverty and social inequality, the protection of human rights during military operations. The game was held in the session hall of Zaporizhzhya City Council. The participants tried to reach a consensus through debate and search for compromises.
Model UN is not just a game, but a powerful training for those who will shape world politics in the future!
