To see, to model, to make: the magic of modern mechanical engineering
On September 12, as part of the Science Kids project from INSCIENCE, a class «See, Model, Make: The Magic of Modern Mechanical Engineering» was held for schoolchildren aged 7–13.
It was conducted by Serhii Tanchenko, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Metal Cutting Machines and Tools, Head of the «Soft Making Money» circle of the Children and Youth Scientific University of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University.
During the meeting, young researchers made a journey into the world of mechanical engineering — from the first complex mechanisms to modern robotic systems. The children learned where engineers find inspiration to create new products, how technical ideas are born and what is the path from the idea to the finished part or mechanism.
The practical part of the lesson was of particular interest. The participants tried themselves in the role of reverse modeling engineers and worked with a 3D scanner. They saw how a real object turns into a digital model, and made sure that modern mechanical engineering combines creativity, engineering thinking and advanced technologies.
Thanks to the Science Kids team from INSCIENCE for the opportunity to promote stem education: science becomes even more interesting when you can see, explore and experience it yourself!
