Winter School 2017
On February 8-13, 2017, a group of representatives of the ZNTU teaching staff took part in the Winter School of Pedagogical Excellence, organized by the British Council in Ukraine within the framework of the English for Universities project. This large-scale event brought together 145 teachers of English for professional and academic communication and teachers of non-philological disciplines who use English in their scientific and pedagogical activities.
ZNTU teachers underwent training in three areas:
– Academic Teaching Excellence (ATE): Antipenko E. Yu., professor of the Department of Construction Production and Project Management; Zhornyak L. B., Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Devices; Kazurova A. E., Associate Professor of the Department of Electric Drive and Automation of Industrial Installations; Parkhomenko A. V., Associate Professor of the Department of Software; Skuybida O. L., Associate Professor of the Department of Occupational Safety and Environmental Protection; Tabunshchyk G. V., Professor of the Department of Software; Frolov M. V., Head of the Department of Metal-Cutting Machine Tools and Tools; Furmanova N. I., Associate Professor of the Department of Information Technologies of Electronic Media;
– CiVELT: Essentials: Senior Lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages Voitenko S. V., Lecturers of the Department of Foreign Languages Adamenko O. V., Bykova Yu. O., Sivets R. O., Syvachuk O. M.;
– English for Academic Purposes (EAP): Head of the Department of Foreign Languages Sobol Yu. O.
Zhornyak L. B., associate professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Devices, shared her impressions of the study: «This is done by inspired, talented, highly qualified and interested people who dream not only to provide certain knowledge, but also to make the work and professional life of our teachers non-trivial and interesting.» In addition, she added that the knowledge gained during training allows teachers to «implement in further work all the ideas and opportunities of modern education in the world».
N.I. Furmanova, associate professor of the department of information technologies of electronic means, noted that she will apply the knowledge gained in her teaching activities, in particular, use new approaches to the educational process, ways of creating team interaction, games and multimedia tools.
N.M. Zhukova, associate professor of the Department of Foreign Languages, received an internationally recognized certificate Professional Award in Teacher Development (British Council) and completed an internship as a trainer at the Winter School of Pedagogical Excellence. Together with her colleagues, she conducted training for professional English language teachers from 15 universities of Ukraine.
The bright final event was the performance of all participants of the Winter School, who prepared an informal feedback on the training and shared their impressions (Skit).
On February 16-18, the head of the Department of Foreign Languages Yu.O. Sobol and the associate professor of the Department of Foreign Languages N.M. Zhukova took part in the Symposium within the project «English for Universities».
During the three-day meeting, heads of departments and teachers of professional English language shared their experience of introducing a new program in the academic discipline «Professional English» for students of non-philology majors.
In addition, the possibility of bringing English language teaching in universities closer to the needs of students was discussed, which is a guarantee of their successful employment and competitiveness in the international labor market.
Special attention was paid to the planning and evaluation of further qualitative changes during the implementation of the British Council project in Ukraine.
From February 27 to March 1, the head of the Department of Foreign Languages Yu. O. Sobol completed an internship as a trainer of the Researcher Connect project, taking part in training for young scientists in the city of Dnipro.

On March 7, a meeting of 15 universities participating in the «English for Universities» project was held with representatives of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the British Council in Ukraine on raising the standards of teaching English to bachelors (level B1), masters (level B2) and scientists.
Rector Serhiy Borisovych Belikov and Head of the Department of Foreign Languages Yuliya Oleksandrivna Sobol took part in the meeting from ZNTU. As a result of the discussion of problems related to the study of the English language in higher educational institutions, a perspective action plan for the next year was developed.
