Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic University is the only university in the region in the international scientific ranking CWTS Leiden Ranking 2026!
Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University is presented in the new edition of one of the authoritative international rankings of university research activity — CWTS Leiden Ranking Open Edition 2026, published on November 4, 2026 by the Center for Science and Technology Research (CWTS) of Leiden University (Netherlands): https://open.leidenranking.com/ranking/2026/list
This year, the ranking includes 3,049 universities from 122 countries around the world. Among the 18 Ukrainian higher education institutions represented in the ranking, Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic University is the only university from the Southern region.
Unlike many well-known international university rankings, the CWTS Leiden Ranking focuses directly on the scientific activity of universities and its performance. It does not take into account reputation surveys, educational indicators or subjective expert assessments. The basis of the ranking is a bibliometric analysis of scientific publications, their citations and international research collaboration.
The open version of the ranking uses data from the international scientometric platform OpenAlex, which accumulates information about scientific publications, authors, research organizations, sources of publications and connections between them. The assessment covers several key aspects of scientific activity: publication efficiency, scientific impact of research, collaboration between institutions and countries, as well as the dissemination of research results in the open access.
One of the most important indicators is the share of scientific publications that are among the 10% most cited in the world by relevant scientific fields and years of publication. This approach allows us to assess not only the number of scientific works, but also their impact on the development of world science. At the same time, differences in citation practices between scientific fields are taken into account, which ensures a more accurate comparison of research results of universities of different profiles.
In the 2026 edition, the main evaluation period covers scientific publications from 2021–2024, the citations of which are taken into account until the end of 2025.
Inclusion in the CWTS Leiden Ranking is of particular strategic importance for Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic University. The development of the university as a modern research institution of higher education, capable of creating new knowledge, conducting fundamental and applied research, developing innovative technologies and integrating into the international scientific space, is one of the priority areas of its long-term development.
The university’s representation in the Leiden Ranking is one of the results of the work of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic scientists and at the same time a reference point for further improving the quality and international impact of scientific research. Despite the difficult security situation in front-line Zaporizhzhia, the university continues its scientific activities, develops research infrastructure, implements international projects and supports cooperation with Ukrainian and foreign scientific institutions!
