Energy sustainability and human resource security: Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic University joins the development of energy education
The Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University, as a leading frontline technical higher education institution, has joined the initiative of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine. On November 3, at an interdepartmental meeting on the work of the Carpathian Energy Education Network, the university was represented by Rector Viktor Greshta, who presented the institution’s key proposals for overcoming the personnel and technological deficit in the industry.
The event brought together key players from the education, government, and energy industries to address human resource and technology challenges:
- state bodies: Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Ministry of Economy and Environment of Ukraine, Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine and State Labor Service of Ukraine
- leading higher education institutions, including Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University
- energy sector and employers: NJSC «Naftogaz of Ukraine», DTEK, NPC «Ukrenergo», JSC «Energy Company of Ukraine», as well as experts of the RST Ministry of Energy
The university delegated Rector Viktor Greshta and Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, Socio-Economic Development and Youth Policy Andriy Ivanchenko to the coordination team.
Key proposals of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University:
- Entry requirements: expand admission by interview for applicants from areas of possible hostilities to engineering majors with the obligation to pass the NMT during their 1st–2nd year of study.
- Media support: state promotion of engineering and energy professions.
- Partnership: engaging technical assistance from international partners for the purchase of scientific equipment, interactive RES demonstration stands for youth and measurement systems, and joint development of training modules with Network participants.
The Zaporizhzhia region needs engineering personnel to restore, decentralize and modernize the energy system (in particular, specialists in cogeneration plants, alternative energy, Microgrids and Energy Storage Systems). Therefore, the Polytechnic Institute initiated a pilot project to create an all-Ukrainian training and educational hub «Safety of Distributed Generation and Popularization of Energy Education among Youth».
Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic University is ready to share its experience, develop new educational modules, and together with the Ministry of Energy and partners, build a sustainable energy future for Ukraine!
