English Speaking Club together with «Casus Pax»
On September 4, the English Speaking Club dedicated to the topic «Stereotypes» was held in the Youth Hub «FREETIME».
Students of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic, ZDMFU and our Zaporizhzhia Humanitarian Vocational College took part, as well as students of Zaporizhzhia Academic Lyceums No. 93, No. 28, «Elint» and «Logos», Zaporizhzhia Technical Lyceum, KZ «OZZSO «Suzir’ya»».
The participants were welcomed by the director of the Youth Hub «FREETIME» Mykyta Zaiko and the head of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Kateryna Lut.
The English Speaking Club was hosted by volunteers Adam McQuire and Holly Tann, certified military medics and founders of the British non-profit organization Casus Pax. Together with native speakers, we discussed the following topics:
– Cultural stereotypes: what we think about the British and what they think about us
– Where do stereotypes come from and how are they formed
– Stereotypes in education, work and lifestyle
– How experience and media influence our perception of other cultures
– Do stereotypes help us navigate the world or, on the contrary, limit us
– Personal experience: what really coincides and what doesn’t
– How to respond to stereotypes correctly and build open communication
The Speaking Club was organized by the team of the FREETIME Youth Hub.
