Educational Hub for Displaced Teachers at Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University

Educational Hub for Displaced Teachers at Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University
Why is the creation of the Educational Hub relevant?

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, employees and students of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University actively participated in volunteering: weaving nets, collecting things for internally displaced persons, and providing humanitarian aid. However, the main direction of the university’s activities is education, so from the first days we were involved in organizing the educational process in displaced educational institutions. Teachers and students from the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia region need a place where they can teach and learn, a shared space for activities together with their students, which was actively communicated at the first working meeting «Support for Relocated Teachers in Zaporizhzhia».

Educational hubs from Dniprodzerzhynska, Vasylivska, Energodarska, Tokmakska and Berdyansk communities of Zaporizhzhia region have already been located on the basis of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic.

The new Educational Hub will be a comfortable and modern place where teachers can provide continuous educational services and support each other.

Within the framework of interaction between the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University and The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) «Building Public Trust (UCBI)» project has begun implementing a project to create an educational hub for displaced teachers from temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia region, which will become an innovative workspace for conducting educational activities and supporting teachers and students as the main beneficiaries of the educational process.

Results of the first meeting

A working meeting with relocated teachers was held on June 25. 25 representatives of schools, extracurricular educational institutions, and colleges of the Energodar, Dniprorudnenskaya, and Berdyansk urban territorial communities were invited to the dialogue.

The main goals of the meeting were a presentation of the future educational hub and a collective brainstorming session that helped explore the needs and challenges in creating the hub. At the same time, we have collected suggestions on how to help improve the educational environment in Zaporizhzhia.

At what stage is the hub now?

The future Educational Hub is being modified every day, acquiring a modern, updated look. During June-August, the premises were completely dismantled. The following works were carried out: removal of the floor covering, dismantling of the outdated floor screed, damaged wall panels, outdated lighting and non-functional heating equipment.
