The final meeting of professional development groups of English language teachers in Zaporizhzhia within the framework of the SWITLO project
On the basis of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University, the final meeting of this academic year’s professional development groups of English language teachers in Zaporizhzhia was held as part of the SWITLO project of the British Council in Ukraine.
From February to June 2024, nine meetings were held, which were successfully conducted by the facilitators of the SWITLO project, Olena Kalievska, an English teacher at the Zaporizhzhia Academic Lyceum «Perspektiva», and Yuliia Beliakova, an English teacher at the «Svitanok» elementary school of the Zaporizhzhia City Council.
Participants of the meetings of the professional community shared their experience and ideas regarding social-emotional learning, the impact of trauma on the learning process and reducing its negative consequences, creating a psychologically safe space in English language classes, effective monitoring of classes.
The event was held with the assistance of acting head of the department of foreign philology and translation Nataliya Zhukova, with the active participation of the Image Center of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University and the staff of the student hub «Freetime».
The project in Zaporizhzhia is supported by the Municipal Institution «Center for Professional Development of Pedagogical Workers» of the Zaporizhzhia City Council.
The SWITLO (Skills and Well-being in Teacher Learning Opportunities) project aims to help teachers create a strong professional community through interaction and reflection, as well as to prepare opportunities to plan development programs taking into account the needs of the community (TAG – Teacher Activity Group).
