Rectors are responsible for paying scholarships, – Ministry of Education
The guilty rectors will be held personally liable for the untimely payment of scholarship indexation
As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education, cases of untimely payment of scholarship indexation were identified in some higher educational institutions.
In this regard, the Minister of Education and Science, Youth and Sports Dmytro Tabachnyk signed an order obliging all heads of higher educational institutions to take comprehensive measures to ensure timely payments: salary, scholarship and indexation for it.
The minister’s order also states that «leaders who allowed the untimely calculation and payment of scholarship indexation will be held personally liable, up to and including dismissal.»
«Of the more than 480 state higher educational institutions institutions, scholarships were paid promptly and in full, taking into account indexation, in almost all institutions. The delay in paying indexation occurred only in five higher educational institutions. And the only reason is, first of all, improper performance of their duties by the leadership of several higher educational institutions. No one has the right to deprive students of scholarships, the amount of which is clearly defined by the Government of Ukraine. Those guilty will be held strictly liable,» commented Dmytro Tabachnyk on this situation.
In addition, the Ministry of Education denied information that scholarships were reduced for students of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv due to lack of funds. «The Ministry of Education verified this information, according to the results of which, not a single case of a reduction in scholarships for students was recorded.»
