Students of the Academic Lyceum «Vybir» visit Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic
On February 5, the cycle of classes of the «Integrated STEM» club for students of grades 5-6 of the Academic Lyceum «Vybir» began in cooperation with the Children and Youth Scientific University of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University and the PNZ «Center NTTUM »Polit«.
The children were greeted by the rector of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic Viktor Greshta, vice-rector Andriy Ivanchenko and director of the Children and Youth Scientific University Olena Nazarova.
The acquaintance with the university began with a sightseeing tour of the Museum of the History of Technical Progress, which was conducted by Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Studies Volodymyr Chop.
After that, the fifth-graders were met by the Department of Physical Materials Science and conducted a lesson on 3D modeling. The schoolchildren were shown the principle of operation of a 3D printer and printed characters from »Minecraft”, which were played at the end of the lesson. The children looked at samples of different metals and tried to guess their names. After that, the guests learned amazing facts and stories about the discovery and use of metals. At the end of the meeting, the students looked deep into things using a raster microscope.
Sixth-graders visited the automobile department, where they learned the general principles of operation of both individual units and systems, and the car as a whole. On a cutaway model of the power plant and transmission with the car’s chassis, the schoolchildren saw how energy from the car’s engine is transmitted to its wheels. The students were shown how gasoline and diesel engines work. In addition, a tour of the department was held, where the high school students saw units and models of various components and systems of cars. The children were quite surprised by a real Tavria with right-hand drive, which was produced for sale abroad to countries with left-hand traffic.

Head of the Department of Automobiles Oleksandr Artyukh, Associate Professors of the Department of Automobiles Vadym Kubich, Andriy Shcherbyna, class teachers, parents and all children for their active participation and interest.
