Participation of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic students in international student debates
On December 19, within Erasmus IMPACT virtual international mobility program, the first international student debate on the topic «Artificial Intelligence in Education» took place.
The organizers of the event were the Hellenic Mediterranean University (Greece), the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Germany) and the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University (Ukraine). The main goal of the project is the establishment and stimulation of international intercultural interaction and the development of soft skills of education seekers from various universities in Europe and the world.
Professor Konstantinos Petridis (Konstantinos Petridis, Greek Mediterranean University) acted as the coordinator of the project and moderator of the debate, and the panel of experts in the debate included professors Halyna Tabunshchik and Oleksiy Kuzkin (Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University), as well as professor Abdellah Chekayri (Al-Akhawain University, Morocco). 19 students from Ukraine, Greece, Egypt, Uganda and Morocco took part in the debate. Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University was represented in the debate by 10 students of the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology and the Faculty of Construction, Architecture and Design.
Dr. Olena Mizrahi from Western Galilee College (Israel) gave a presentation that outlined the issues of using artificial intelligence in education and its ethical aspect. Later, the students, divided into two mixed international groups, discussed the arguments «for» and «against» the use of artificial intelligence in education and, following the discussion, presented them in a debate format, justifying their opinion and putting forward counterarguments in response to the arguments of representatives of the opposing team. A team of experts evaluated the performances of the participants and the correctness of their statements. All participants who took part in the debate will receive certificates of participation in the virtual mobility program.
