Participation of undergraduate psychology students in an open lecture on logotherapy by an Italian specialist
On May 28, first-year undergraduate students of the Department of Psychology, together with associate professors of the department Kateryna Pylypenko and Tetyana Borodulkina, took part in an open online lecture on the topic «Logotherapy in Education and Pedagogy» by Daniele Bruzzone, a logotherapist from Italy (professor of the Department of Pedagogy of the Catholic University of Milan; member of the International Council of the Viktor Frankl Institute in Vienna; head of the Center for Research on Influence, Contexts and Educational Relations (CARE) and co-coordinator of the research group on pedagogy, health care and care of the Italian Pedagogical Society (SIPed); director of the journal «A-tier Encyclopaideia» (Journal of Phenomenology and Education); co-editor of the collections «Emotional Life and Education», «Existentialism and the Humanities» science” (FrancoAngeli Edizioni) etc.). The lecture was organized and conducted by the Ukrainian Association of Logotherapy and Existential Analysis.
The participants were introduced to the main areas of application of Viktor Frankl’s logotherapy ideas in the educational sphere, in establishing child-parent relationships and in solving current problems of raising modern children (using the example of Italy). At the end of the meeting, Daniel Bruzone answered numerous questions from the participants, including those related to the value-based education of Ukrainian children during the war. The lecturer emphasized the uniqueness of the experience of Ukrainian children and young people, who, despite the horrors of war, learn to value life in such conditions and develop resilience, which will help them live their lives with dignity and fullness, with meaning, in the future, which, for example, is often lacking in European children and young people.
This was not the first time that the Department of Psychology has participated in open lectures, training courses, and seminars from the Ukrainian Association of Logotherapy and Existential Analysis. The Department’s teachers and students, mostly master’s students, have been active participants in various educational events from UALEA for the past two years.
Associate Professor Tetyana Borodulkina has completed several long-term training courses and has received basic education as a logoconsultant with relevant certificates (training course «Logotherapy and existential analysis» from the Ottawa Institute of Logotherapy accredited with the international association of logotherapy and existential analysis (diploma, 120 hours), led by Edward Marshall — PhD, Professor of Psychotherapy and Spirituality named after Viktor Frankl at the Higher Theological Organization, Sarasota, Florida, USA; registered psychotherapist of the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario, Canada; certified clinician, lifelong member and teacher of the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy, USA); training course «The spiritual capabilities of Viktor Frankl’s logotheory», led by Timo Purjo, Doctor of Philosophy, accredited logotherapist; President and Chief Trainer of the Viktor Frankl Institute Finland.
Professor of the department Nataliia Savelyuk, Associate Professor Tetyana Borodulkina and Master’s student Oksana Yeremeyeva completed the «Basic Course in Logotherapy and Existential Analysis» (certificate, 60 hours; presenter – Marshall Hamilton Lewis, PhD, accredited logotherapist, executive director of Southwest Guidance Center, USA, Kansas).
In addition, Associate Professor Tetyana Borodulkina was one of the speakers from the Ukrainian delegation at the International Congress on Logotherapy from the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy (USA), which was held in October 2023 online.
Taking into account the interest of Ukrainian specialists in the ideas of logotherapy of V. Frankl, as well as the immersion of teachers and graduates of the department of psychology in the topic of logotherapy, the program of the 5th All-Ukrainian scientific and practical conference «Society and personality in modern communication discourse», which was held on the basis of our university on May 14-15, included the section «Development of logotherapy and existential analysis in Ukraine».
