In Horlivka, students are forced to pay utility bills for the university
At the Horlivka State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages, students are forced to «voluntarily» hand over money to pay the university’s utility bills
This is stated in an open letter from students of this higher educational institution, UNIAN reports ( http://education.unian.net/ukr/detail/192368 ).
The letter, in particular, states that «the university administration appeals to students with a request to voluntarily and forcibly donate 250 UAH per person to pay the university’s debt for utility services».
The students note that they are asked to transfer the funds to the university’s current account, but «do not forget to write a short statement about your charitable intentions to the rector».
The provided ready-made application form addressed to the rector of the institute is printed: «We ask you to consider the issue of accepting a charitable contribution by the institute in the form of material assistance for the payment of utility services.»
The form also has a dash next to the words «for the amount» where each student must enter their own figure, which is equal to the amount of a personal donation to the university for the payment of utility services, although «according to the order from above, each student of the institute must donate 250 UAH.»
According to the students, with this application «the university administration decided to insure itself.» «But this is absurd! Why should students pay for this too? What is the money spent on for tuition? The teaching staff has also allegedly suffered, they say, almost all of their salaries have been »taken away«. They argue this by saying that the state has not allocated any funds to state educational institutions, and now the institute is unable to pay for utilities, and students are on the verge of not being able to finish their studies this semester,» the authors of the open letter are indignant.
They remind that about 4 thousand students are currently studying at the Horlivka State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages, so «at 250 UAH each, it comes out to 1 million UAH.»
The students are outraged by the current situation, considering the institute’s situation «catastrophic», because if the heating is turned off, the educational institution is threatened with being disconnected from electricity.
The authors of the open letter also reported that this morning a mass protest action was held near the Central Building of the Horlivka State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages, where students expressed their outrage at the current situation at the institute.
