Modern narratives in linguistic discourse

Modern narratives in linguistic discourse

We affirm the image of a highly educated Ukrainian nation, elevate the meaning of the Ukrainian word, and cherish an invaluable treasure — our language.

On November 8, as part of the events dedicated to the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, the Department of Ukrainian Studies and General Language Training organized and held an intellectual and spiritual interfaculty round table on the topic: «Modern Narratives in Linguistic Discourse,» which was attended by about a hundred students from various faculties of our university. First-year bachelors who seek to study the richness of the Ukrainian word in depth joined the discussion of linguistic problems. The round table meeting became a platform for speeches and presentations by students of both humanitarian and technical fields.

The Ukrainian language is the language of freedom and will, a powerful weapon of the Ukrainian people in the struggle for our independence and victory. It is one of the main factors in the defense of the country from the enemy, even much stronger than all the fortresses. Language became the object of research in the works of Ishchenko Sofiia (FIBEK-233) «The Role of the Ukrainian Language in the Struggle for Independence», Melnyk Mykyta (CH-123) «Narrative about the Language Space», Trubai Olha (FEU-413) «Language as a Means of National Self-Identification of Ukrainians», Yartseva Veronika (FEU-413) «The Originality of the Ukrainian Language at the Morphological and Lexical Levels», Shestakov Yaroslav (FKNT-213) «Modern Linguistic and Cultural Space in Conditions of War», Solopatych Ivan (ETF-253) «Language Picture of the World of Ukrainians during the War».

Language is a living, sensitive organism, it is constantly developing and enriching. The round table session presented reports that reveal the influence of society on the development of language: Matsura Maksym (FKNT-213) «Emotional and evaluative neologisms to denote the enemy in Internet discourse», Poddubny Danylo (FKNT-213) «Features of computer neologisms in English», Vlasov Illia (FKNT-213) «Neolexemes to denote the realities of the Russian-Ukrainian war», Kyrychenko Kyrylo (ETF-313) «Stylistically reduced vocabulary in the language of mass media», Trukhachev Artem (BK-233) «Features of Ukrainian youth Internet slang».

The students’ reports examined how Russian aggression against Ukraine affected the emotional state of Ukrainians, which is especially felt at the lexical level: Filonenko Roman (FKNT-113) «Semantic Specificity of phraseological units in media texts of political orientation 2022-2023« and Misko Anna (MF-213) »Archetypes in poems-reflections on the modern Russian-Ukrainian war”.

The participants honored the memory of the defenders of Ukraine, thanks to whom we have the opportunity to study, develop the country, and realize our dreams. The presentation about our fellow countryman, defender of Ukraine, scientist – Vyacheslav Zaitsev – was prepared by Antsypyrovich Vladlena (FEU-513).

Active assistance to students in preparing materials for reports and in designing presentations was provided by scientific supervisors: Assoc. Prof., Ph.D. in Philology Bilenko T.G., Assoc. Prof., Ph.D. in Philology Katysh T.V., Assoc. Prof. Bondarchuk K.S., Senior prof. Myronyuk L.V. Currently, holding such events is extremely important, because it contributes to the formation of new ethical thinking and the dissemination of a holistic narrative that would unite society thanks to the Ukrainian language, affirming it as a priority for the development of an independent state.

The moderator of the event is Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Studies and General Language Training Bilenko Tetyana.
