STEM education of Zaporizhzhia Region — 2016
As part of the II International Scientific and Practical Conference «Continuous Education of the New Century: Achievements and Prospects» and the Regional Exhibition «Education of Zaporizhzhia Region – 2016» on April 22, a master class «Formation and Development of Engineering and Algorithmic Thinking Based on Hardware and Software Platforms» was held, aimed at promoting the development of STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) education in the region. The main topic was increasing the efficiency of training future engineers, which requires interaction between schools, universities, regional authorities and business.
The moderator of the event, associate professor of the Department of Informatics and Information Technologies in Education of the ZOIPPO Serhii Arkadiyovych Ivanov raised the issue of integrating efforts for the development of STEM education, the need for support from local and regional authorities.
Schools in the region demonstrated their achievements and aspirations to continue working in the field of robotics. It is worth noting the works demonstrated by the computer science teacher of the Zaporizhzhia Technical Lyceum Tkachenko T.V., the computer science teacher of the Matviyivskyi NVK «Vsesvit» Rabeshko V.V., the computer science teacher of the Zaporizhzhia Secondary School No. 55 – Yarmolovich N.M.
From Zaporizhzhia National Technical University, representatives of the Department of Software Tools (pdf, 2.2 MB) and department of electric drives and automation of industrial installations (pdf, 2.9 MB) demonstrated their capabilities in the field of robotics and the potential for interaction with schools in the region.
Pyrozhok Andriy Volodymyrovych, can. tech. sciences, associate professor, led a delegation from the Department of Electric Drive and Automation of Industrial Installations consisting of senior lecturer Zaluzhny Mykhailo Yuriyovych and students POKHYLA Artur (gr. E-312) and Denys TOMILO (gr. E-313), and a graduate of the department Dmytro Mykytyuk with a self-created robot. They demonstrated the projects being implemented at the department (a spherical robot, an automated car wash, a hovercraft, etc.), and showed the possibilities of interaction with schools for the purpose of career guidance, popularization of engineering professions, which is especially relevant for our industrial Zaporizhzhia region.
With the support of the international projects TEMPUS ICo-op «Industrial cooperation and creative engineering education based on remote engineering and virtual tools» and DESIRE «Development of courses in embedded systems using innovative virtual approaches for the integration of science, education and industry in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia», the Department of Software Tools operates three remote laboratories – GOLDi laboratory ( http://goldi-labs.net/index.php?Site=47 ), RELDES laboratory and ISRT laboratory. Professor of the Department of Software Tabunshchyk G.V. gave a presentation on the use of remote experiments for teaching robotics, offered opportunities for cooperation with schools in the region interested in the development of STEM education.
In addition, students and postgraduate students of the Department of Software presented existing programs and projects: Smart Home (student group KNT-711m, A.V. Tulenkov), Programming tools for Raspberri Pi (student group KNT-424 Ohmak V.O), Projects with Arduino in LabView (graduate student of the Department of Software Petrova O.A.), Programming of mobile platforms with FlowCode Buggy (student group KNT-711m, E.P. GRIGOR’EV).
A representative of DIXI, a partner of National Instrument, Shevtsov A., presented their developments and spoke about academic initiatives.
All presentations aroused keen interest among visitors and schoolchildren.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Council, Hryhoriy Viktorovych Samardak, and the Head of the Department of Education and Science of the Regional State Administration, Tetyana Yaroslavna Ozerova. They supported the initiatives of teachers and talented youth.
