Cooperation between Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic and Cardiff University within the framework of the program «UK-Ukraine R&I twinning grants scheme»
The visit of the delegation of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic teachers to Cardiff University has ended. The second week was also quite eventful and interesting. The School of Physics made a pleasant impression, the introduction to which was led by Professor Petro Smouton, Director of the School of Physics and Astronomy. Modern laboratories were demonstrated. Leading experts shared their findings in the field of quantum physics, semiconductor manufacturing, artificial diamonds and the development of a device for scanning a person to detect prohibited items.
Dr. Chris North and Georgie McGarry presented the project «Mentoring and Educational Work in Physics», and Wendy Sadler – «Science is Simple: Scientific Communication for STEM Students». Both projects are aimed at popularizing physics and engaging schoolchildren in scientific activities in the UK.
The School of Engineering organized a visit to the High Voltage Research Laboratory, where experiments are conducted on the effects of lightning on aircraft bodies. Dr. Ze Ji introduced the areas of activity of the Laboratory of Robotics and Unmanned Technologies, demonstrated the capabilities of neural algorithms using the example of working out a task with a KUKA robot.
The last item on the visit program was an excursion to the Parliament of Wales – Senedd Cymru, the building of which is designed according to the eco-friendly principle: using natural building materials and rational use of daylight and rainwater.
Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic and Cardiff University have a wide field for further joint scientific research and prospects for expanding cooperation.
