On June 26, our dear and respected rector Serhii Borisovych Belikov celebrates his birthday!

For more than sixty years of personal growth, Serhii Borisovych has gathered a wealth of experience and accomplished many things that are useful for society, not only in the field of science, but also in matters of educating the younger generation. We would like to trace the entire path of our rector and mark his special steps, without fail highlighting his merits to his native land.

Serhiy Borisovych Belikov was born on June 26, 1953 in the city of Zaporizhzhia.

In 1975, he graduated with honors from the Zaporizhzhia Machine-Building Institute named after V. Ya. Chubarya majored in «Cars and tractors», in 1978 – post-graduate studies at the Department of Metallurgy.

During the years of study, he took an active part in the public life of the faculty and institute. He was elected secretary of the Komsomol Bureau of the Automobile Faculty, a member of the Komsomol Media Committee named after V. Ya. Chubarya, a member of the Zhovtnevy District and Zaporizhzhia Regional Committees of the LKSM of Ukraine.

He was elected secretary of the Party Bureau of the Mechanical and Metallurgical Faculty.

In 1982-1991, he was the chairman of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Zaporizhzhia Region, in 1983, 1984, 1986, 1988, he organized regional scientific and technical conferences of young scientists and specialists.

Laureate of all-Union contests of student works in social sciences, history of the VLKSM and the international youth movement. Member of the political delegation of the VLKSM at the 3rd Friendship Festival of the Youth of the USSR and the GDR (1975, Halle). For his participation in the preparation for the International Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow, he was awarded the state award – the medal «For Labor Valor» (1986).

Laureate of the Prize of the Komsomol of Ukraine for the best published scientific work (1984), laureate of the Regional Komsomol Prize named after M. Androsova (1982).

He defended his candidate’s thesis in 1981 and early doctoral thesis in 1996 in the field of «Materials Science in Mechanical Engineering». Doctor of technical sciences, professor.

Worked as an engineer, senior researcher of the problem laboratory, associate professor of the department of metallurgy, acting head of the department of metallurgy, professor of the department of physical materials science, first vice-rector for academic work, headed the departments of automobiles, transport technologies, from 2013 – head. Department of Physical Materials Science.

Since October 29, 1997 – Rector of Zaporizhzhia State Technical University. Since 1998 – Deputy Chairman of the Board of Rectors of Zaporizhzhia University Center, since 2001 – Chairman of the Board of Rectors. Deputy of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Council (2006-2010), member of the Zaporizhzhia City Executive Committee (1998-2006).

Member of the Russian Association of Metallurgists (since 1994), member of the All-Ukrainian Council of Young Scientists (1987-1994), member of the European Association of Engineering Education (since 1999), academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Higher Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1999), academician of the Transport Academy of Ukraine (2001), academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (2005), academician Academy of Sciences of the Higher Education of Ukraine (2007), academician of the Engineering Academy of Ukraine (2011).

Vice-president of the regional union of entrepreneurs and industrialists (employers) «Potential» (since 2004).

Professional interests: current state and directions of improvement of engineering education: improvement of the control (management) system in a higher technical educational institution (technical university, academy); modern information technologies and learning technologies, their application in order to improve the organization of the educational process; new corrosion-resistant heat-resistant steels and alloys for stationary and marine gas turbine construction, principles of alloying of heat-resistant corrosion-resistant steels and alloys. Has more than 200 publications of a scientific and methodical nature, constantly participates in international conferences.

Chairman of the specialized scientific council for the defense of doctoral dissertations, editor-in-chief of the magazine «New Materials and Technologies in Metallurgy and Mechanical Engineering», which is included in the list of the Supreme Administrative Court.

Awarded with the Order of Merit of the III and II degrees (2000, 2009), the Certificate of Honor of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (2004) and the Certificate of Appreciation of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (2008). In 2003, he was awarded the honorary title «Honored Education Worker of Ukraine». Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology (2008). Awarded the orders «For services to the Zaporizhzhia region» of the III and II degree (2008, 2009).

Awarded with the Golden Badge of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

Member of the Club of Rectors of Europe. Honorary professor of the International University (Vienna).

Member of the European Association of International Education (since 2000). Co-organizer of the implementation of the international project «Advanced computer technologies – universities of Ukraine» (since 2001). Member of the International Executive Committee of the Black Sea Network of Universities (BSUN, 2008-2012).

In 1999, as part of the national image program «Leaders of the 21st Century», he was awarded the international non-governmental award «Golden Mercury» for his personal contribution to the revival of the economy, the development of integration processes. In 2000, he was awarded the gold medal «For merits in education» by the International Personnel Academy, in 2001 – the order «For the development of science and education».

Holds departmental awards: «Excellent in Education of Ukraine», «Honorary Motor Driver of Ukraine», «For Scientific Achievements», Medal «For Cooperation with the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine», «Honored Member of the Transport Academy of Ukraine».

Also received international awards «Intelligence of the Nation» (2004), «Millennium Award» (2005), «Star of Palmyra» (2006).

Awarded by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate with the orders of the «Christmas of Christ», the Order of the First Class George the Victorious, the commemorative medal «1020 years of the Baptism of Russia».

During his leadership, in 2001 Zaporizhzhia State Technical University was granted national status by the Decree of the President of Ukraine.

In his position as rector, Serhii Borisovych made a great personal contribution to the further development of the university, while demonstrating the necessary professional and organizational abilities, the ability to mobilize the team to achieve the set goals.

We are proud to be under the sensitive leadership of such a well-deserved person as Serhii Borysovich Belikov, and sincerely give him our special respect. In the life of the Zaporizhzhia National Technical University, the concepts of reliability, success and prosperity are associated with the name of Serhiy Borisovych.
