Results of Ukraine’s participation within the Framework Program for Research and Innovation «Horizon Europe» for the period from 2021 to September 2024
Ukraine’s participation in the EU Framework Program for research and innovation «Horizon Europe» shows a significant increase in key indicators compared to the previous program «Horizon 2020». The results summarized from the materials of the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission (DG RTD):
Key achievements:
- grant funding increased by 7% — during the 3 years and 8 months of Horizon Europe, Ukrainian participants received EUR 52.2 million compared to EUR 48.87 million for the entire Horizon 2020 period (7+ years)
- the average grant size per project increased by 33% to €277,659 per project, compared to €207,957 in the previous program
- success rate of projects increased by 64% — the share of approved proposals increased to 15.38% against 9.33% in the previous program
- the number of participants has increased — 186 Ukrainian organizations participate in Horizon Europe, which is 8% more than in Horizon 2020
- activity in the submission of projects increased — the average monthly number of proposals increased by 24%, and the annual number increased by 21%. In 2024, the number of applications submitted reached 65 per month, while in 2023 this figure was 56
Position of Ukraine among associated countries:
- within Horizon 2020, Ukraine took 7th place among 16 associated countries in terms of funding
- in Horizon Europe, it ranks 6th among 19 countries in terms of the number of participants and 7th in terms of the amount of grants involved (52.2 million euros or 2.421 billion UAH)
These results emphasize the growth potential of Ukraine in the European scientific space and its ability to successfully integrate into international research projects.
