Results and prospects of cooperation between the Faculty of Engineering Sciences of the Catholic University of Leuven and ZNTU
This year marks 5 years of fruitful cooperation between the Zaporizhzhia National Technical University and the Faculty of Engineering Sciences of the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium). This event was dedicated to the extended rectorate held on June 6, 2017, which was attended by Dr. Petro Arras, head of Campus de Nair of the Catholic University of Leuven for international relations and internationalization, head of the Electromechanics training program of the Faculty of Engineering Technologies of the Catholic University of Leuven.
University Rector Prof. Serhii Borisovych Belikov noted the importance of international cooperation for teachers and students of ZNTU and for his outstanding achievements and significant contribution to the development of education, science and international cooperation of ZNTU, he solemnly presented Petro Arras with the diploma of honorary professor of Zaporizhzhia National Technical University.
Cooperation between our universities began in 2012 as part of the TEMPUS Promeng international project. In 2013, at the De Nair Campus, together with the students of the Department of Software Tools of ZNTU under the leadership of Ph.D. technical of Sciences, Associate Professor, Professor of the Department of Software Tools Tabunshchik H.V. a remote laboratory for the study of physical properties of materials was developed and introduced into the educational process.
The Tempus Desire project, which was carried out at ZNTU from 2013 to 2017, was also the result of creative cooperation between universities. In general, new equipment worth 25,000 euros was purchased at ZNTU with project funds, fourteen teachers completed internships at universities in Belgium, Germany, and Slovakia.
Since 2015, 2 inter-institutional agreements have already been signed between ZNTU and the Faculty of Engineering Technologies, Catholic University of Leuven within the Erasmus+ individual mobility program. In total, during the implementation of the program, 3 graduate students and 8 students from 5 different departments of ZNTU (Departments of Electric Drive and Automation, Department of Transport Technologies, Department of Software, Department of Physical Materials Science, Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology) have already completed internships.
In the fall semester of 2017/2018 1 graduate student of ZNTU and 2 master’s students from the mechanical engineering and engineering-physics faculties were selected to study at the De Nair Campus.
According to the results of the internship, a scientific group was created to study the dynamics of cutting processes under the leadership of Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. Yu.M. Vnukov, currently headed by the head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology S.I. uncle The results of joint research were used in the dissertations of M. Kuchugurov and A. Germashev. A post-processor was also developed for a four-coordinate CNC milling machine located in the new dynamic research laboratory of ZNTU. In order to continue the scientific cooperation between ZNTU and KU Leuven, it is planned to implement a dual postgraduate program of ZNTU-Catholic University of Leuven in 2017-2021. and prepare a request for funding under the Horizon 2020 program.
During his stay at ZNTU, Petro Arras held lectures for students of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and the Institute of Informatics and Radio Electronics.
The program of the visit also included getting to know the historical sights of the city of Zaporizhzhia, visiting PJSC «Motor-Sich», the museum of retro cars «Phaeton», the robotics festival «Robofest» in the city of Dnipro and the Zaporizhzhia company Infocom.
