Summary of a guest lecture by sports psychologist Volodymyr Mashyr
On November 29, the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University organized and held a guest online lecture on the topic «On the Psychology of Athletes and the Work of a Sports Psychologist».
Guest lecturer – Volodymyr Mashyr – sports psychologist, master of sports in rowing, specialist in the field of sports psychology and rehabilitation, personal trainer in yoga-concentration, author of self-development programs for athletes and coaches (over 20 years of working with professional athletes (tennis, swimming, football, taekwondo, athletics, basketball, judo, gymnastics, badminton, boxing); has many years of experience in conducting meditations, relaxation and concentration techniques), author of patents (https://www.vmashir.com/), master’s student of the Department of Psychology.
During the lecture, Volodymyr Mashyr spoke in detail about the psychology of an athlete (the importance of motivation and concentration), about the peculiarities of the work of a sports psychologist (psychodiagnostic work; counseling, psychological support; consideration of cases from work experience), about the author’s approach and methods of working with an athlete (concentration and relaxation techniques; athlete’s balance wheel). In addition, he conducted several small concentration exercises with the participants, talked about how to overcome pre-start fever, and also answered numerous questions from those present.
The online lecture was attended by about 90 guests, including not only applicants for all bachelor’s and master’s courses at the Psychology Department, but also professional athletes, psychology students from other Ukrainian universities, and everyone who was interested in the topic.
The guest lecture was held as part of the study of the academic disciplines «Introduction to the Specialty», «Psychodiagnostics» and «Psychological Counseling» by bachelors of the OPP «Psychology» (teacher – Associate Professor Tetyana Borodulkina).
