Winners of the competition of scientific papers at the international human rights conference

The International Human Rights Conference «Decade 2014-2024» was held in Kyiv before the International Human Rights Day. Reclaiming human rights. Preserving democracy«, where the students of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic were invited – the winners of the research contest »Ombudsman of Ukraine: protection of human rights during the war« Kateryna Panasyuk, Alyona Kotegova and Olena Kachura. The winners were prepared by Ruslana Maksakova, head of the Department of Constitutional, Administrative and Labor Law.

More than 1,000 participants joined the event, including diplomats and human rights defenders from every corner of Ukraine and the world, united by the theme of the unity of our state with the entire democratic world, its rules and norms. The conference was opened by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Lubinets.

Panel discussions within the conference were devoted to discussion of the following topics:

• »Interaction between parliaments and ombudsmen for the promotion of human rights in a time of uncertainty«
• »Looking for ways to improve the effectiveness of NPM recommendations in wartime conditions«
• »Ukrainians in Russian captivity: search and return home«
• »A decade of resistance to Russian aggression: faith, unity and human rights as the basis of Ukraine’s stability«
• »War for identity: a decade of suffering and resilience of Ukrainian children«
• »Partnership between the authorities and civil society as a guarantee of the rule of law in a democratic world«
• »Observance of informational rights during war: challenges, prospects«
• »Reintegration of freed civilians: the path after return«
• »Between the lines: declarations and reality in the protection of the rights of IDPs«
• »Observance of the right to a fair trial in conditions of war: realities, challenges, prospects”

Conference participants visited the Secretariat of the Plenipotentiary of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, where they met with heads of departments, who spoke in detail about their work and toured the main halls of the secretariat.

A pleasant bonus for our female students was personal communication with the Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets and the representative of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for human rights in the Zaporizhzhia region Mykhailo Volkov.
