Offline media game «Fake News»
On September 18, the offline media game «Fake News» from the Department of Journalism took place in the FREETIME youth hub, on the basis of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University. The game was attended by teams of high school students from Gymnasium No. 93, Academic Lyceum No. 23, as well as students of our university. Vice-Rector Andriy Ivanchenko came to congratulate the participants and wish them victory.
The participants fought hard for every point: they competed in the speed of finding information and the primary source of spreading fake news, as well as in the quality of image verification.
Unlike the students, for whom the game was a test of basic media literacy skills, the teams of schoolchildren had to conduct real investigations. They learned how to check photos using color correction, track chains of spreading lies from unreliable sources, and use specialized applications for analyzing photo and video content.
The intense competition ended with the victory of two teams: the first place was taken by students of gymnasium No. 93 and students of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic University, and the second place was taken by a team of students of lyceum No. 23. All participants received nice prizes from the university.
Congratulations to all participants, because there are no losers in this game: everyone improved their practical skills in fact-checking!
Thank you to the NGO «Social Interaction» for helping to organize the game!
