United by the word and spirit of Shevchenko
This year we celebrate the 211th anniversary of the birth of the Great Kobzar, the prophet of the national revival of Ukraine, the talented artist and people’s poet Taras Shevchenko.
In order to honor the memory, foster love and respect for the creative heritage of the poet, on March 10, the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University hosted the Shevchenko readings «We hear you, Kobzar, through the centuries», organized and conducted by the Department of Ukrainian Studies and General Language Training.
The event was attended by students from various faculties: A. Zbynets and A. Kuris (BTU–1014), K. Zaliska and A. Yarova (BTU–0814), T. Sergienko (GF-313), O. Pavelko (T-324), N. Tereshchenko (T-614), M. Moskalets (T-314), Ya. Nyzhnyk (UFKS-212), T. Dzhamalova, A. Dyachenko, S. Troshkina, A. Zaikova, E. Narkevych (UFKS-214), M. Golovetsky and V. Grishina (Yu-314). Together they created a poetic flash mob — a live reading of the Kobzar’s works. You can listen to excerpts from the recitations in the video «Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic Reads» .
Student reports with vivid presentations showed our genius through the eyes of modern artists – painters, illustrators, poster artists, sculptors, directors, musicians, singers who make Shevchenko alive (A. Zbynets and A. Kuris – BTU-1014), Ya. Nyzhnyk (UFKS-212), Ye. Zakora (Yu-214).
Students also debunked myths about Shevchenko as a peasant, an ignoramus, an old man in a cap, removed the labels attached over the years and represented him as an educated person, a fashionista, a rebel, an aristocrat, a nationalist (S. Polishchuk — GF–214).
The speakers did not miss the topics of Zaporizhzhia in the life and work of Shevchenko (O. Berdo — Yu–214), the creative relationship between Shevchenko the artist and Kateryna Bilokur (V. Basheeva — FBAD–533).
They also talked about the works of writers in which Kobzar was glorified (V. Obertinska — T–314).
The image of Taras in numismatics became the topic of another speech (B. Sagaydak — T–814).
Associate professors of the department Tetyana Bilenko, Kateryna Bondarchuk, Iryna Voroniuk, Tetyana Katysh, Halyna Onufrienko and senior lecturer Lina Myroniuk were able to interest students with original projects, non-stencil themes for speeches.
Students of the Faculty of Engineering and Physics created an electronic book with Shevchenko’s quotes, illustrated with his modern portraits, representing the creative project «Always Modern Shevchenko».
The head of the fiction sector provided information about various editions of Shevchenko’s works stored on the shelves of the Scientific Library of our university Nataliia Fedko.
Working together – developing together!
