Interdisciplinary scientific and practical symposium «Modern technologies of medical materials science in orthobiology»
At the invitation of the rector of the National Medical University named after O.O. Bogomolets Kuchyn Yurii Leonidovych and Vice President of the Ukrainian Association of Orthopedic Traumatologists Oleksandr Buryanov, Rector of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic University Victor Greshta, Vice Rector for Research Vadym Shalomeyev and Head of the Department of Aviation Engine Technology Dmytro Pavlenko took part in the work of the interdisciplinary scientific and practical symposium with international participation «Modern Technologies of Medical of materials science in orthobiology», which took place on October 20.
Viktor Greshta gave a speech «Low-modulus, biocompatible titanium and magnesium alloys: properties and prospects for use in medicine.» The presented developments were worked on by a group of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic scientists: professor, candidate of technical sciences Viktor Greshta, doctors of technical sciences Vadim Shalomeev, Dmytro Pavlenko and Mykhailo Brykov, as well as candidate of technical sciences Daria Tkach.
The concept of a new approach to the development and creation of low-modulus biologically compatible titanium and magnesium alloys for use in medicine is presented, the main elements of which are:
- system of doping magnesium-based alloys with noble metals — control of dissolution rate
- methods and modes of plastic deformation of magnesium-based alloys in a wide range of degrees of plastic deformation (up to 1000%) – control of the dissolution rate
- alloying system and production technologies of non-toxic, sintered titanium semi-finished products for implants — obtaining materials with a modulus of elasticity corresponding to human bone tissue
The exchange of thoughts and ideas during the master classes became the basis for clarifying the directions of further joint scientific work with medical colleagues, in particular, agreements were reached on conducting clinical research in osteosynthesis using new materials.
Scientists of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic once again prove that the synergy of the scientific activities of material scientists and doctors makes it possible to obtain breakthrough discoveries in the field of orthopedics and traumatology, which make it possible to save lives and ensure faster recovery and rehabilitation of our soldiers.
Together to victory!
