Kirov Home for the Disabled
The children’s ward houses children and young people with profound mental retardation, most of whom have parents, but are forced to spend almost all their time in the home for the disabled.
Today, there are 57 children in the children’s ward (up to 17 years old) and 65 people (from 18 to 30 years old) in the youth ward.
Only two children with orphan status and several children deprived of parental care live in the home for the disabled, while the rest have parents or guardians. All their time, including holidays and weekends, the girls are in the ward, only some children are taken home by their parents once a month or for the holidays.
The children’s ward houses children with various forms of mental retardation, a special school program has been developed for all of them, which they follow during the school year. This program includes teaching elementary arithmetic, speech development, art therapy, music therapy, «fairy tale therapy», occupational therapy, and physical education.
In addition to studying, the girls also have additional classes: embroidery, sewing, hand-made crafts, and sports clubs. Children love holding holidays and having guests.
The other day, the Kirov branch was visited by volunteer students from ZNTU. Undoubtedly, such visits are always a joy for children. Especially when the visits are not empty-handed: the student union committee has been collecting clothes, toys, etc. for the past two months and giving them all to the home for the disabled. Therefore, do not be indifferent! If you have even the slightest desire and opportunity to help, in any way, orphans and disabled children, make it happen!!!
You can find out about everything that the shelter needs from the administration of the Kirov House of Disabled People by contacting them through Gudkova Anna, head of the trade union of students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of ZNTU (tel.: 0663833354).
