The first (intra-university) stage of the XIV International Language and Literary Competition for pupils and students named after Taras Shevchenko

On November 24, Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University hosted the I (intra-university) stage of the XIV Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literary Competition for Pupils and Students, which was organized and conducted by the Department of Ukrainian Studies and General Language Training.

The Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literary Competition for Pupils and Student Youth was started in 2010, and since then young admirers of Veliky Kobzar’s work have traditionally participated in it every year. It aims to honor the creative heritage of Taras Shevchenko, as well as identify gifted youth, develop their potential, educate the younger generation to respect the language and traditions of their people, and raise the level of language education in Ukraine.

Representatives of almost all faculties took part in the competition – the best connoisseurs of the Ukrainian language of our institution in accordance with the humanitarian and technical study profiles in the number of 16 people, among them: Nataliya Sazonova (FCNT 133), Pavlova Ulyana (BK 813), Oleksandr Tretyak (FCNT 223), Yana Tsymbal (FCNT 213), Ivan Ivashchuk (FCNT 123), Viktoriia Kovtun (BAD-532), Veronika Klimova (FEU 513), Akhmedova Sabina (FEU-413), Yerenburg Yelyzaveta (BK 813), Mokhon Yuliia (SN-123), Yatsun Tetyana (BAD-913), Nika Krotova (FBAD-513), Viktoriia Antonova (GF-313), Kyrylo Kyrichenko (ETF-313), Andriy Yurkov (M-813), Trubai Olha (FEU-413).

The Russian-Ukrainian war formed a new public perception of the symbol of Taras Shevchenko. Today, we move away from the image of Shevchenko in a striped hat and coat, realizing the great Kobzar as a leader of the Ukrainian people, whose ideas are alive. They are a signpost for our fight against Russian aggression. Although this year’s stage takes place in such difficult conditions for Ukraine, participants were able to join from all corners of the world. They received a task, on which they worked in accordance with the requirements of the Competition, revealing the issue of the literary heritage of Veliky Kobzar, the projection of his works for the present. Based on the results of the examination of students’ competitive works, a highly qualified jury will determine the winners, who will have the opportunity to participate in the next stage of the competition.

At this difficult and historically important moment, Shevchenko is with us, he is side by side with the Ukrainians in this great, sacred battle! We believe in our truth and strength and in his immortal word!
