«Do it with Micro:bit»: practical aspects of automation and mechatronics

On November 15, a master class «Do it with Micro:bit» was organized by the Children’s and Youth Scientific University «Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic» for students of grades 6-8 of Zaporizhzhia Gymnasium No. 61.

In informatics and integrated STEM lessons, high school students already study Micro:bit, so the purpose of the event was to deepen knowledge and improve skills in working with the Micro:bit microcomputer from the point of view of practical application; popularization of engineering professions and implementation of the concept of development of science and mathematics education (STEM education).

Children learned interesting facts about traffic lights in different countries of the world, as well as how a traffic light works and what it consists of. Using the Micro:bit traffic light module, schoolchildren developed their own traffic light project.

Students gained basic practical skills in developing programs to control the micro:Maqueen Plus V2 robot car for Micro:bit, namely, moving along a given trajectory and recognizing an obstacle.

At the end of the master class, the children were shown the operation of a car wash model with an automatic control system based on a Siemens industrial controller.
