Damage to Dormitory #2 and the University Sports Complex on 11 November 2024

Last night, on November 11, as a result of another Russian shelling, our dormitory #2 and the university sports complex were damaged by an explosive wave.

At about 1:30 a.m., when the dormitory residents were supposed to be resting, they heard the sound of an explosion, immediately followed by glass shattering. An employee of the sports complex was injured. Fortunately, her injuries were insignificant and not life-threatening.

Broken windows, smashed facades, piles of glass on the floor, damaged awards of our athletes, chopped heating, water and gas pipes, lack of electricity due to a damaged transformer substation – this is our reality today.

Our dormitories are now home to students and their relatives who have escaped from the occupied territories. There are many families with children. The main goal now is to provide them with decent living conditions. Winter is approaching, and above all, we want to give people the opportunity to live in a warm home.

Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic has always been known as the most athletic university among non-sports ones. Our sports complex has been and will be a platform for performances and training of sports winners: university teams in basketball, volleyball, futsal, crossminton, and the most outstanding athletes – the university team in sports aerobics, which has won numerous international and world victories. We want to do our best to return the athletes to their training grounds.
