BIOART is an international project of the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education program, aimed at modernizing and internationalizing higher education in the field of bioengineering by developing and implementing an innovative multidisciplinary curriculum in artificial implants for bachelor’s and master’s degree levels.
The project aims to train highly qualified specialists in the field of smart artificial implants, strengthen international and interregional cooperation, and foster innovation in the design, manufacturing, and maintenance of artificial implants.

Project Goals and Focus
Special attention is paid to:
- modernizing educational programs in the field of bioengineering;
- developing training courses on artificial implants for bachelor’s and master’s levels;
- creating an innovative academic environment for bioengineering education;
- updating laboratory and educational facilities;
- aligning educational programs with the needs of the labor market and industrial sector;
- developing students’ technical and professional competencies;
- fostering skills in analytical thinking, teamwork, entrepreneurship, presentation, and solving applied engineering problems.
Main tasks: analysis of educational needs and the labor market, updating existing curricula, developing new courses on artificial implants for biomedical engineering, implementing practice-oriented courses using ECTS, modernizing laboratory infrastructure, and establishing a cooperation network at the interregional level.
Project activities:
- Benchmarking, assessment, and strategic plan development;
- Curriculum development. Main BSc / MSc degree in Artificial Implants for Bioengineering;
- Quality management and quality assurance;
- Establishing university-enterprise cooperation;
- Project management.
Expected Outcomes
- I. New courses in artificial implants for bioengineers;
- II. New competencies in artificial implants for bioengineers;
- III. Modernized and new BIONIC laboratories;
- IV. Training courses for academic and non-academic staff;
- V. Student project competition;

Laboratory Facilities at Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University
Within the BIOART project, two new laboratories have been established at the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University:
- Laboratory of Telemedicine and Biomedical Systems;
- Laboratory of Intelligent Computing and Virtual Reality.
The laboratories are used to train bachelor’s and master’s degree students, conducting laboratory classes on medical information infrastructure, embedded biomedical systems, wireless sensor networks, machine learning, artificial intelligence, biomedical signal processing, and telemedicine.
