Rights protection and governance

  • Representing and defending the interests of higher education students in their dealings with the university (approval of orders regarding expulsion, reinstatement, changes to the mode of study, tuition fees and accommodation costs in halls of residence, the awarding of scholarships, the academic calendar, the appointment of vice-rectors, deputy deans, heads of departments, etc.).
  • The conclusion of a collective agreement between the university administration, represented by the Rector as the authorised representative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and the Trade Union Committee of the university’s students, postgraduate students and doctoral candidates, acting as the body authorised by the student body to represent their interests, represented by the Chair of the Students’ Trade Union Committee.
  • Active involvement in the management of the university (the Rector’s Office, the Academic Council, staff meetings, the Scholarships Committee, and working groups tasked with addressing issues relating to the running of the university).
  • Public oversight of the work of the university’s departments and the businesses located on the university campus and in the halls of residence.
  • Engaging with the authorities and members of parliament to represent and protect the interests of students.

Social assistance and grants

  • Financial assistance for students who are trade union members facing difficult circumstances.
  • Registration of students eligible for benefits (over 20 categories), advisory support and monitoring of the provision of the benefits and social payments to which they are entitled.
  • Application for social grants.
  • Advice on scholarships (the process for awarding academic, social and named scholarships, as well as non-state scholarships (from local and regional authorities, businesses, charitable foundations, organisations, etc.)).
  • Working with government bodies, local authorities, businesses, organisations and foundations to secure additional financial support for students.
  • The presentation of awards to the university’s top students from the university, trade unions, the city and region, and various ministries and departments.

Housing and daily life

  • Arranging accommodation for undergraduates and postgraduates in halls of residence, and providing guidance on applying for housing benefits and reduced-rate payments.
  • Assistance with applying for subsidised or free accommodation in university dormitories.

Development and career

  • Legal advice for students on matters relating to the organisation of the academic year, changes to study modes (transferring from fee-paying to state-funded, from full-time to part-time, or from part-time to full-time), dual study programmes, accommodation, daily life, leisure and recreation.
  • Training for trade union activists (off-site training courses for trade union activists at holiday resorts, training sessions and workshops on developing leadership and communication skills, team-building, and other forms of non-formal education, etc.)​
  • International academic mobility programmes, work placements, academic courses, and international links with educational institutions in other countries.
  • Application for ISIC international student cards.
  • The volunteer movement.
  • Collaboration with youth organisations at companies and other universities across Ukraine.

Leisure and events

  • Health and wellness programmes for students, as well as meaningful and exciting leisure activities at discounted rates: summer and winter holidays in various parts of Ukraine and abroad, trips to other educational institutions in Ukraine and around the world, sightseeing tours, weekend getaways, visits to cinemas, ice rinks, water parks, nightclubs and sporting events.
  • Organisation of university events: competitions, concerts, festivals, events, parties, open-air events, shows, and sports festivals.
  • The fan club for the sports teams of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University offers the opportunity to attend sporting events free of charge, both in Zaporizhzhia and far beyond.
