Faculty of Engineering and Physics

Foundry production, welding, materials science are the foundation of enterprises in the metallurgical and mechanical engineering industries.

The mission of the Faculty of Engineering and Physics is to train specialists for the development of mechanical engineering and metallurgy in Ukraine and around the world.

The extensive system of mechanical engineering and metallurgical enterprises in our region means a significant need for a large number of highly qualified specialists. Graduates of our faculty are on the "you" side of metals: they are well versed in the structures, technologies for obtaining and developing metals and materials, understand the equipment and technologies of foundry production, welding technology and equipment, are able to restore and increase the wear resistance of parts and structures, and also develop new technologies for the foundry production of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys.

The Faculty of Engineering and Physics is the basis of the mechanical engineering and metallurgical industry of the Zaporizhia region and Ukraine!

The year of foundation of the faculty is 1930.

History of the Faculty of Engineering and Physics

The faculty (formerly the Foundry Faculty, and since 1966 the Mechanical and Metallurgical Faculty) is the oldest at the university. With its organization, the development and formation of the university begins. Initially, the training of engineers for the national economy was conducted by teachers and scientists of the Foundry Department, which performed the role of the faculty. After the creation of the Mechanical and Metallurgical Faculty, the training of engineers of a wide profile began here.

With the creation of the Mechanical and Metallurgical Faculty, it included the following departments: machines and technology of foundry production, equipment and technology of welding production, physical materials science, metal technology, machines and technology of metal processing by pressure, economics and production organization.

In connection with the needs of the national economy in engineering personnel of this profile both in the USSR and in Ukraine in particular, on June 23, 1980, two faculties were opened: Mechanical and Metallurgical and Mechanical and Technological. On May 16, 1994, the Mechanical and Technological Faculty was disbanded, and on December 14, the Mechanical and Metallurgical Faculty was renamed the Engineering and Physics Faculty.

A significant part of the historical path of the faculty is associated with the names of famous scientists and teachers-leaders, heads of the faculty:

The deans of the MMF at different times were: V.S. Popov (09/01/1959–09/01/1964); R.S. Belyakov (09/03/1964–09/26/1969); B.S. Speransky (09/30/1969–05/15/1974); A.V. Sypko (05/16/1974–12/29/1976); B.M. Chumakov (12/30/1976–11/19/1980); V.I. Gontarenko (11/20/1980–08/31/1982); A.O. Shalomeyev (09/01/1982–12/14/1989).

The deans of the ITF were: B.M. Chumakov (11/20/1980–12/26/1981); I.V. Pinkovskiy (12/28/1981–11/16/1985); M.S. Gamov (11/25/1985–04/23/1989); O.F. Bychevy (04/24/1989–05/16/1994).

The deans of the IFF were: A.O. Shalomeyev (07/10/1989–09/12/1995); V.M. Sazhnev (07/10/1995–04/1/1997); A.O. Shumilov (03.08.1997 – 19.06.2012); O.V. Klimov (20.06.2012 and to this day).

Currently, the IFF includes the following specialized departments: machines and technology of foundry production, physical materials science and integrated technologies of welding and modeling of structures. A large number of students master the professions needed in production. They study in well-equipped classrooms and laboratories. More than 50 teachers pass on their rich experience and knowledge to future specialists, including professors: V.G. Ivanov, S.M. Popov, V.L. Greshta, V.Yu. Olshanetsky, M.M. Brikov, V.V. Netrebko, V.V. Naumyk, S.A. Vodennikov, D.A. Antonyuk. The faculty trains engineering personnel in three specialties and six educational programs.

The Dean’s Office is a kind of headquarters of the faculty, its analytical and organizational center, where lesson plans are developed, their control is carried out, the necessary documentation is prepared; current and prospective issues of the present are resolved. This huge amount of work is carried out by: Dean – Associate Professor O.V. Klymov, his deputy – Associate Professor E.M. Parakhnevich and employees with higher education, young highly qualified and conscientious specialists in their field – Inna Ponomarenko, Yevgenia Ivanchenko and Victoria Parkhomenko.
