Achievements and prospects of the TEMPUS DESIRE international educational project
At the end of June 2015, within the framework of the project TEMPUS 544091-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-BE-TEMPUS-JPCR [DESIRE] «Development of courses on embedded systems using innovative approaches for the integration of education, science and production in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia» a delegation visit took place ZNTU headed by rector Professor Serhiy Belikov to partner higher educational institutions: Catholic University of Leuven and Thomas More University College Mechelen-Antwerp Campus de Nayers (Belgium).
The main purpose of the rector’s visit was to discuss the achievements of the TEMPUS joint international educational projects, the results of international cooperation and the prospects for ZNTU’s further participation in the European educational and scientific projects HORISONT 2020, ERASMUS+, etc.
According to the program of the visit, the following meetings of the ZNTU delegation took place with:
- by the vice-rector for science, engineering and technologies of Leuven University of Technology, Professor Georg Zhilen,
- by the deputy dean of the faculty of engineering technologies for research work, professor, Dr. Ian Ivens,
- by the deputy dean of the faculty of engineering technologies for international relations, Professor Sabina Vercrusse,
- by the manager of the Thomas More University College Mechelen-Antwerp Campus De Nyer Martin Tymans,
- by the head of KU Leuven, De Nayers, Gilles technology campuses, professor Wert Lauvers,
- Chair of Studies Thomas More Joan de Bock,
- manager for international relations Thomas More Agnes Dillien,
- by the head of educational electronic information and communication technologies Hilda Jansen,
- by Patrick Pelgrims, head of the Thomas More Embedded Systems Research Group.
The ZNTU delegation visited educational and research laboratories of Thomas More (Automotive Technology Center, Welding Technology Center, 3D Printing Laboratory, Construction Design Laboratory, Metrological Laboratory, Product Certification Center, Nanotechnology Laboratory and others), got acquainted with the curricula and training programs of bachelors and masters, met with teachers and students.
An important component of the visit was participation in the Summer School «Embedded software and CAD/CAM/CAE for embedded systems» under the program of the project TEMPUS DESIRE «Development of courses on embedded systems using innovative approaches for the integration of education, science and production in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia». Leading European teachers conducted the following trainings for their colleagues from Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia:
- formula Flowcode Buggy,
- MCAD CREO,
- ECAD Altium,
- C for embedded systems,
- embedded communications,
- embedded software,
- digital signal processing,
- multi-core programming,
- embedded operating systems.
Interesting events of the Summer School were the Altium Academic Roadshow seminar from the company Transfer – the official representative of the Altium company, as well as a visit to a company that assembles electronic products based on printed circuit boards.
The knowledge and practical skills gained during the Summer School will be used by teachers to organize a new modern laboratory of Embedded Systems and Remote Engineering (a.53a) and introduce European teaching methods and new courses on embedded systems into the educational process of ZNTU.
To date, as part of the TEMPUS DESIRE project «Development of embedded systems courses using innovative approaches for the integration of education, science and production in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia» ZNTU has received modern equipment for the embedded systems laboratory, licensed software (Creo 2.0, Atlium 15, FlowCode). Delivery of LEAPFROG CREATR HS 3D printer and GOTCHA 3D scanner is expected in the near future. The total cost of the received equipment is 19,923 euros.
