Admission campaign – 2014 or how to become a student of «Mashinka»
Summer – such a carefree, bright and cheerful time of year. You want to do nothing, lie on the beach and swim in the gentle sea. But summer – also a hot time, in the literal and figurative sense. Every summer, the annual «fever» – admission campaign begins in all universities of Ukraine. Zaporizhzhia National Technical University, as the largest university in the Zaporizhzhia region, every year deals with the largest influx of applicants. This year, as in previous years, the number of applicants almost broke records, the admissions committee worked late and on weekends (even on Sunday!). Fortunately, the admission to the full-time form of study was successfully completed, and it was time to sum up.
July 11, 2014 was the «day X». There was a huge crowd at the door of the admissions office, applicants began to queue at five in the morning, and inside the operators were nervous before the first working day, the first reception of documents. And then at 9:00 – it began: keyboards were burning, printers were constantly printing new and new registration cards, applications and receipts, parents were worried, applicants were calling the specialties they had chosen for admission in a trembling voice – work was in full swing. As a result – on the first day of work, operators accepted about seven hundred applications, and this is not counting applications submitted through the electronic admission system, of which there were also about two hundred. Every morning, a crowd gathered at the doors of the admissions office, department representatives competed to provide consultations about this or that specialty, and the phone was bursting with calls. Finally, the so-called «waves» of enrollment passed, everything calmed down, and more than a thousand applicants became budget students of «Mashinka».
A few statistics. In 2014, about ten thousand applications for admission were submitted to the ZNTU admissions committee. And this is for a little more than a thousand budget places! Traditionally, the most popular among applicants were such specialties as translation (447 applications), law (423 applications), finance and credit (441 applications), management of organizations and administration (438 applications), computer systems and networks (447 applications), tourism (395 applications) and other, mostly humanitarian, economic and computer specialties. Of course, with the ratio of the number of budget places to the number of applications of 1:10, not all applicants entered ZNTU under the state order. Although, parents and applicants themselves «terrorized» daily admissions committee employees on the subject of chances for admission under the state budget and places in the ranking.
In the end, I would like to note that this year’s admission campaign was surprisingly successful – the admission plan under the state order was fulfilled, all the most willing entered ZNTU either for the budget or contract form of study. The admissions committee employees can now breathe a sigh of relief and begin admission to the correspondence form of study, which, although less troublesome, is no less important. In turn, the applicants only have to prepare for the solemn initiation into students and be nervous before the first day of study at the university – the first day of truly adult life.
